Two U.S. Soldiers, 5 Militants Die in Afghan Clash

KABUL (*******) - Two U.S. soldiers and at least five Muslim militants were killed in a clash in central Afghanistan (news - web sites) on Thursday, the U.S. military said.

The clash in Uruzgan province, south of the capital Kabul, occurred as U.S. forces in Afghanistan stepped up their hunt for Taliban and al Qaeda militants, including Osama bin Laden (news - web sites).

U.S. and Afghan soldiers came under fire from "anti-coalition militia" while on patrol in a village, the U.S. military said in a statement.

"The soldiers returned fire, killing at least five terrorists and wounding others," it said. Two U.S. soldiers were wounded.

U.S. forces in the south and east of Afghanistan have been hunting for al Qaeda and other militants along the Afghan side of the border with Pakistan, while Pakistani forces have launched a sweep of the remote tribal lands on their side.

Pakistani troops may have cornered bin Laden's number two, Ayman al-Zawahri, near the Afghan border on Thursday, Pakistani officials said.

Uruzgan province is about 300 km (200 miles) west of the Pakistani border.

I was referring to a previous post from Asia Times online stating that a Taliban offensive was underway. There have been virtually no American casualties the past few months so this news means that somethings going on.

They were patrolling a village and got shot up.

That happens in a low level war like this.

Their firebase was not attacked by 50 Taliban fighters while targets around the country were being hit.

They were simply shot dead in a village by the Fighters that were there.

Theres no offensive.

and RIP to those men

Gonna take a hell of alot more to convince me the taliturds are on the offensive. Odds still aren't favoring these a-holes in these punk ambushes.

I can guarantee that US will leave in a couple of years and surprise surprise, talibans
will still be around then. As long as they are not crushed (which the US donŽt have
the resources for), IŽd say that the odds is in their favour in the long term.

The Taliban don't have the resources for a true 'offensive' anymore. They don't even travel in groups more than 6-12 because they know a JDAM or WCDM loves large groups of unprotected soft targets and there are simply not the numbers there were in 2001.

In addition, yes, the US will leave in a few years, and yes the Taliban will come back, but if it continues the way things have been going, the Taliban people will die--this time by the hands of the Afghani people defending their freedom.

well its wholly impossible to crush every terrorist even belonging to one org. sure a few ******ly supressed taliban will still be ****ing donkeys when we leave, but you forgot to mention the world wide taliban netork in other countries. so your stating the obvious in "we cant get em all"? how boyishly quaint. yes we know that, we just mean to rip the **** off the current org. there is nothing wrong with that.

why clean something when it will simply get dirty again? because the temporary effect of cleaning is substantial to your health.
