Hiya!
Ive been working for quite awile on researching the former afghan airforce(s) aquiring images and compliling documents.
ive pretty much exhausted searching the net (websites, photo sites, news sites etc) with fairly good results, but could always be better. I know there are alot of servicemen who frequent this board who have served in afghanistan.
do any of you have images of afghan migs or sukhois or other non transport aircraft(eg L-39s)form your personal collection??? I would be extremely greatfull for any help provided. feel free to PM me, any images will not be republished, but kept solely for research. Thanks to photos submitted by servicemen i have compiled significant amounts of detailed information regarding this forgotten air force, and hope to gain more to complete the picture.
Many thanks in advance
Regards

Thanks for sharing.
First pic I cannot tell the mark on the tail, and the description "danger" is in english instead of cyrillic.
Is second pic from Afghanistan, if yes, Soviet or Afghani crew?

if you asked about Mi-24, the first Mi-24D ptohos are of Afghan air force in Pakistan colours (probably CIA photos). In 1985 two Mi-24D deserted to Pakistan, about Mi-17, Itīs from Afganistan but I donīt know about crew

Most of the old Soviet helo's and such are owned by local pilots in A-stan who for a small fee will fly you anywhere you want to go. It is amazing that half of them can still get up into the air much less run. They use a mixed array of parts from the black market to keep them up. Its actually quite entertaining to see.

Nothing, really.
Except for the fact that they are Soviet aircraft, not Afghan (read topic).
But there's no big deal there anyway.

or i see i just read the name of the topic which not really pointning to Afgan airforce, and didn't really read the 1 post so iassume the conversation was about Russian Aircraft in Afgan.
I don't think Afgan airforce existed in a way u can call it at least Airforce

In 1979, Afghan Air Force had:
50 MiG-17 Fresco (jet fighter)
40 MiG-21 Fishbed (jet interceptor)
25 Su-7B Fitter (ground attack fighter)
20 Il-28 Beagle (bomber)
15 An-26 Curl (transport)
30 Mi-24 Hind-A (attack helicopter)
thats pretty sizeable.

Hiya
while not what i was looking for, i also enjoy pics of russian Ac from Afghanistan, so no bother to me :)
Afghanistan has had an Airforce since 1924.
yea the hind pics are from egypt: giveaway is the Fod protectors and the shelter in the backround.
Telnyashka, I take it ur figures are from wiki (BTW the articles outwright wrong in many places so beware ;) ): half the mig-21s and give it over to the mig-17s and its pretty spot on for that peroid :)
