Only ten days ago, early in the morning, mostly tucked in, they hugged their pillows while falling to sleep. Most of them used to wake up around noon to the smell of mother's fritters coming from the kitchen. And now, at the crack of dawn around 7.00 a.m., they are lying in the middle of the field on tent canvas, holding tight their automatic rifles. They have already shaved themselves, washed themselves with cold water, made their beds and tided their dormitory, had breakfast and morning callisthenics...

The March recruits are experiencing their first days in the army throughout our country. Last week, we visited an Air Defence unit in the military barracks in Jakovo and gave them a boost to survive those first days more easily. We found around thirty freshmen, future gunners, practising ****e position for their first rifle shooting. One's helmet is falling off, the other's hands are shaking, and another one's belt is hanging loose... When the time comes for them to take the solemn oath, it will all be in its right place - their officers are saying.
"First three days were like on a merry-go-round. Orders coming all the time: take this, bring this, pack, arrange, hurry up, down, up, down, up"... - soldiers describe their first encounters with a new way of life. The worst is to get used to early waking up, making the bed, putting the locker in the best order... Instead of going out and having fun, they drop in at the canteen, in which they are allowed to stay ten minutes at the most, to buy some juice, candy or food, before they take the oath. Those more clever can even have time to drink a bear. "I have blisters from practising the marching steps", says soldier Nenad Vojinovic, making a frown. "This oath will come to pass, and we will all go home for the first time and our girlfriends will heal our wounds".

1. Left, right: marching is still not quite "in line"

5. Going to sleep: instead in a bed, on a tent canvas

6. Beginner's troubles: "The knife won't go in, but it will until the time for the oath comes"

7. Rifle range: road to a cannon starts with an air riffle

8. Morning washing: after the cold water, the soldiers are finally awake

The Serb army is changing to kevlar helmets aren't they RSK? By the way what do your initials RSK stand for? Is it for the Krajina region?
Didn't the Serb army used to have a tiger-stripe camouflage?

no, they never used anything like tiger-stripe.
And yes almost all units on active duty now have kevlar helmets, similair to american design, these are just absic training that's why they ahve the old M50 designation helmets. :D

Listen, about the webbing these guys are wearing.

That other guy seems to have an LC1-looking belt, but I'm not so sure of the "suspenders" that his carrying, though.

These look awfully US, or are they just something of a local copy?

There were many different camouflage patterns flying around during the bosnian war, but there was no official tiger-stripe camo being used. :D

9 month's?! Are they f*** crazy!? Why 9 month's!?

Because it costs ****load of money? Think of it this way instead, if they had
soldiers for 12 months before and the average soldier fired 2000 rounds with
his rifle and slept out in the forest 100 nights. Is that better than if a soldier
that does 9 months fires 3000 rounds and sleeps 150 night out in da bush?

mustamato thinks not. It´s the quality that matters, not how much soldier had
to wait and wait and wait. And all that have been in the military knows that
typical way of things are: waiting waiting waiting waiting and doing everything
in a hurry, and then waiting waiting waiting etc.

That camoflauge is Kamysh, its a Russian pattern, same most likely with the "Police Unit" that was mentioned. Except they would probably use the "Urban" version.
