Pilot had deadly heart failure – managed to land his aircraft before death!
Jack Francis died but saved his passengers. He took of in his private Cessna 185 this Sunday with his wife and another couple. They were going from Jackpot , Nevada, to Brigham City, Utah.
During the flight Jack Francis had his heart failure and was forced to land on a highway close to Park Valley, Utah. All the other passengers got away without injuries. Jack Francis died at hospital in Tremonton.

Funny way of putting it. Do they mean he had an MI which led to acute heart failure, or did he have chronic heart failure which was acutely exacerbated? I doubt they would let anyone fly with chronic heart failure.

I afraid that the funny way of putting it comes from my "swenglish"p-) .
It is not a very detailed article. But as I read he just had an acute heart failure while airborne. I´m no heart surgeon though...

Glad the other folks lived, but why would you fly, especially with passengers, if you had a heart issues?
I remember reading a story about a guy in Florida flying with a known heart condition. He started to have a heart attack while flying near the coast, so he turned the plane out to sea to prevent killing anyone on the ground. I don't think they found the plane.

Ah, thought it was the article text!
Never mind. Quick lesson:
Acute heart failure is where the heart rapidly becomes unable to adequately support the circulation, either through an exacerbation of existing chronic heart failure or as a result of a severe, acute myocardial infarction (MI or 'heart attack') which damages the heart muscle sufficiently to compromise it's function.
Chronic heart failure is normally a result of an MI or a series of MI's which cause irreversible damage to the heart muscle. People underestimate the prevalance of HF, it's more common and has a worse prognosis than any cancer.
It could have been a first MI, but it would have been quite severe to kill him that quickly. Chances are he had some CHD symptoms before, but so will most americans his age. Can't stop them all from flying I suppose.

well, they might mean he was having a heart attack, not heart failure. Or he had Cardiac arrest which is doubtfull since he managed to land.
but i'd say it was more of a severe heart attack.
