An activist from the Respect Party has urged British Muslims in east London to stop co-operating with police. Yvonne Ridley, who became a Muslim after her kidnap by the Taliban in Afghanistan (WTF?) five years ago, has accused the police of being heavy-handed.
She told BBC News British Muslims should "withdraw all support" for the Metropolitan Police.
Her comments come in the wake of an anti-terror raid on a house in east London in which one man was shot.

Yeah, that will help public opinion swing in the general direction of muslims!

Wrong section anyway!!!
Guys, you know the MEDIA sells nothing but controversy! The Media is not interested in the truth or the bottom line! Don't get caught up in the absolute bull crap the news pushes down the publics throat.
I just wish the public would "call out" the media for their "staged reporting" and carelessness towards detail.
I know this is a little off subject but it does concern my point about the B.S. media.
Example, I was watching MSNBC (not by choice, couldn't avoid it) and they were doing a report on the terrorists arrested in Canada a few daya ago. The Anchorman asks questions to the Reporter who broke the story like the Anchorman just thought of these "clever" questions on the spot while they were talking live on the air. The Reporter instantly answers these "clever" questions with some "inside" knowledge only the Reporter knows, and wow does he sound intelligent and confident in his reporting. The thing is, it's so painfully obvious these questions and answers were written before they ever went on the air, yet they go through this charade like it's witty banter!!!
That's where the REAL media story, how so full of SHIIIIII.... these guys are!
O.K., I'm all done!!!

Well, if you had any idea what the RESPECT Party is, you'd know that this story is real. I don't think even the media could come up with such a ridiculous concoction as them.

quite so and the fact that its the BBC reporting this story actually makes it more beleiveable seeing as they usually try to obscure anything seemingly bad about certain things.
Seriously though i still loved the thing with Paxman and galloway after galloway won it was a legendary moment and put paxman even higher in my book of ;) respect.

Heard her on radio four this morning. Completely unable to understand any reasonable considerations. She was blabbering on about the police being heavyhanded and shooting innocents on the basis of flawed inteligence, she couldn't accept that the police hadn't completed their investigations and couldn't comment yet.
Honestly, I saw the lawyer for the wounded man on Newsnight talking with Paxman, even he (the wounded man) could see why the police did what they did and instructed his lawyer to say that he was pleased the police were taking these threats seriously, he was only angry because he claims he is innocent.
Why do the media feel the need to boost their circulation by airing these nutcases views? The media should present a considered, reasonable debate. Instead they create conflict by allowing extremists from either side to vent their polarised opinions. Worse still, because this government seeks to appease the media, not the population. It's such a self-fullfilling crock-o-sh!te.

Yvonne Ridley is quite a nice person actually. I met her once quite some time ago and she told me about her story of being kidnapped by the Taliban. Quite a good story. Went on for about an hour though :P.

I completely DON'T doubt your word. But the media will find that one person in 1000 that disagrees with everybody else, then put out to the public the ridiculous claims that person is making like that ONE person "represents" everyone else!!!

Where i work, an Islamic Prayer hall has been built. I didn't really think much of it, but my two Sikh colleagues were raving about it taking the piss, and 'who do they think they are?'! lol
I don't care if they build mosques up here, but if they begin chirping in their minarets I'll firebomb the damn thing.

anyone know if I can build a church in Kuwait? I do have this vision of a grand 3,000 seat, stained-glass window and stepple with a cross on top! How about Oman, surly the tolerant muslims there would be so open as to allow me the "freedom" do such? I am available to have this built in Syria as well? Any muslims countries willing to offer me some property for such a project? Hhhmm?

Well, they did feed her (more then they did themselves), wash her feet, treat her with respect etc etc. So she says anyways.

Quite a few it seems!
Please don't talk out of your arse in future. Christians live quite happily in these islamic countries. In the case of Syria and Lebannon and Palistine, christians have strong historical ties with the area and live side by side with muslims.

Ok, But the Taliban history, especially on women's rights, ranks with the worse. It is good they did not do what they do to women who accidently "flashed" a little ankle, worked or stood up.

They weren't the taliban mate....
....not saying that either group was/is by any degree nicer or better, but they are different groups. You can't just lump everyone together because of religious wacko-ness.
Remember that the Taliban ran Afghanistan (well, as close as anyone can get to running it) for a number of years. They are/were fairly media-savvy and would always make a show to sympathetic media-types. Now if Yvonne Ridley had actually been a spook....
