60 years ago isn't that far back. It's really only one or two generations ago for most people. At least the Germans apologized and acknowledged the atrocities they did, and probably people could just say, "It wasn't all the Germans, just the Nazis and the SS." I'm not sure you can make that distinction with the Japanese. Their invading army into mainland Asia really went apesh*t.
