Operation Spring Lift


On 15 April 2005 a demonstration of EUFOR helicopters was held on Camp Butmir (Sarajevo). Ten helicopters flew around downtown Sarajevo in formation and disembarked troops on Butmir. COMEUFOR, Major General Leakey spoke with the press about EUFOR’s helicopter capability, the Over The Horizon Forces and the fight against organised crime and corruption.

All helicopters in the demonstration transported troops of the Italian Alpini Regiment that is currently in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They are part of a regular exercise to ensure that “over the horizon” reserves are able to respond at short notice to rapidly enhance EUFOR capability if necessary.

Bright green and yellow camouflage... I just don't get it. It sticks out like a sore thumb against the background.

can you see the back ground color? ... for that kind of environment colours Hellis where designed to operate above...

Actually it is the GIAT NC621 20mm cannon. The SOCAT upgrade is part french, part israeli, and part romanian/russian(some of the unguided rocket types used). Cool mix, I dare say. I saw a couple of SOCATs up close and personal during the "Archangel 2005" airshow here in Greece and I was quite impressed. They even had the long range ferry tanks in the cargo/personnel compartment.

Yes the Gun is French, avionics are israeli. Weapon are what ever the can get on them: Unguided rockets , AT missiles( AT-3 Sagger mod with a tandem warhead and laser guidance perhaps, Spike ER etc)

At the expence of some cargo/personnel capacity though. The weight and drag of the external ordnance lessens internal load.
