Seems that these multinational exercises is in fashion these days, in this
exercise also soldiers from Sweden and Finland took part (non-NATO).

What is this jacket with a hood that the Swedish officers seem to be wearing?

From what I can remember, they sold something like this on Militaryshop.se...

The Militaryshop.se-version is something of their own, and is not allowed to
be worn by Swedish military personell, because it lacks this M-number, which
means that it has been tested and is safe to use (and if you wear it and get
injured you will not get any money from the insurance probably). The version
with the hood is for tha shiznit-troops only, the elite, it´s a fancy and expensive
goretex-type of jacket. It´s made by Taiga and is called FJS 02. And as you can
see by the name of it, a ordinary grunt can only dream of getting issued one.

I believe the AGL is called Stricker CG-40(?) and it is also used by US SF. It has programable ammunition(for air burst) and is a joint project between a US and a Swedish company( SACO and Bofors?)

I've just got home (from Joint Winter 04)
I will post some nice pictures here in a couple of days. I have to sort them first, can't post them all (some of the pictures are "NATO restricted")
I'll be back :)

The excercise will end (endex) at Mar 25 , but my missions are (mostly) completed. To night I'm going out to have some beers, and celebrate the victory over "Opforia" (with the red band on the helmets) :)

I'm going in one more time, but just for debrief etc.....

The chopper shown in the pic is not one of those Westland Lynx choppers used with the Corvettes of the Royal Norwegian Coast guard.
Rather it's one of the standard land-based multi-purpose Augusta-Bell 412's.

Looking at the pillars of the bridge in the pic, would you drive onto that bridge in its normal un-reinforced state without any sort of apprehensions?? rofl. One of the more interesting elements of modern tank warfare is in fact how the weight of those beast puts limitations on route planning.
Incidently, one of the reasons why the weight of German WW-2 tanks, before the advent of the Panther and Tiger, were kept to a maximum of about 24 tonnes, was because that was about the upper load limit of most German bridge structures at the time.
Also remember from my UN days that in Israel they didn't have the sort of overpass bridges on highways and other main roads that's quite common in Europe and the States and rather made do with some huge traffic light controlled crossings instead. A hassle during rush hour in peace-time, but one less source of logistic worry in wartime.
As for the bridging system shown, wasn't aware of that we had Leo Brückenpanzer's in Norway. Though I know we (also :)) have the wheel based Leguan system with the same bridge type.

These guys from the LRRP Sqdr/Recce bt.??
Definitely a god place to do conscription service. Plenty of opportunities to learn your limits, and a lot of outdoors. And not so flashy as the Marine and para jaeger units.
When I served with the predecessor of that unit we could choose between AG-3 and MP-5.
Definitely wouldn't like to end up in a firefight with the MP-5.
The new winter camo is a revelation compared to the old cotton water soaking, f***in stuff.

JoZo
03-25-2004, 01:40 PM
No, I'm sorry to say they are not from LRRP Sqdr/Recce bt... but I do agree that doing conscription service there is not a bad idea.

Yes, the new winter camo is much better than the old one!

Some of them are conscrips.... some of us have been around for a while ;)

The MP5 is actually quite good for the right missions (CQB etc... )
Many of the mission goals are observation, and if you do it right, you shouldn't need a weapon at all. ;)

On the note of artillery pieces, did you get to see any of these new Panzerhaubitze2000 things? Just recently found out Norway had acquired a couple of these. Don't know how many or why, but i'm thinking it's for the FIST/H reinforcement group...

Great photos both mustamato and Jozo. I must say that scandinavian armies stuff generally looks well kept, neat and tidy (in most cases). Sometimes I must say I envy you... Though the same thing probably provokes Permii and other russians to laugh and start "toy soldier" flaming ;)

Keep it coming woot

PS. That new gore-tex jacket and trousers seems to have additional cordura reinforcements on forearms, shoulders and on knees - again very nice idea - especially if yopu have to do some crawling in Goretex.

PS2. Swedish camo seems to be really one of best there is - basing on photos from africa it works equally well in jungle as in north woods. Guess got to get one... Is Goretex made in sweden or by some third party? (french I have is normally made in Germany by the same company that provides BW goretex)

From what I can remember, they sold something like this on Militaryshop.se...Yea, You right, That must be a new type of unifrom.

The Norwegian field uniform comes with a button fastened field hood that can be taken on/off the uniform according to season.
When new to the service that piece of kit was one of those implements looked upon with some suspicion as to how it would work out in practice.
Though suspicious wee neden't have been, cause that removable "field hood" is a remarkably practical piece of uniform kit.
Do you have a similar removable hood for the standard Swedish field jacket?
Know at least you have a similar type of thin jumper like "field shirt" with zipper opening at the neck like us (another great piece of uniform kit in northern climate btw).
Do you also have the same sort of heavy "Bruce Willis Diehard style" woolen jumper with velcro opening at the neck (the jumper Bruce Willis clowns around with in the snow on that airport, in fact being a grey civilian version of the standard Norwegian army heavy woolen jumper :D and yet another great piece of kit)?
And lastly do you use suspender or a belt on the Swedish field trousers?
On the Norwegian field trousers both solutions are possible. But personaly I would recomend suspenders as it helps airflow between upper and lower body, and to some extent lessen the problem of gathering of sweath/moisture in the clothing around the waist.

...Well, may perhaps not be that far out as guess goes.
During my days in the army the parachute jaegers had a few jump capable German shepherd dogs (presumably trained to work as patrol dogs).
Wether they jumped in tandem with the handler or had their own chute rigs I don't know.

During WW-2 dogs were dropped separately with their own harnes to in operations both with the Parachute regiment and the SAS.
The most famous such dog being "Rob", who attained a record number of decorations and who carried out 20 parachute jumps while serving with the SAS in Italy from 1943.
