The guys in the white ghillie suits are from the URH 27 HUMINT unit, not a Special forces unit per se but a brigade level LRRP unit.

Back in the days before the French armed forces went all pro, there was a sort of excange programme between the Norwegian army and the Chasseur Alpins, where a platoon of hand picked Norwegian infantry (it was held out as a sort of prise for good conduct and performance in the appropriate infantry unit) would serve for 4-6 weeks with the Chasseurs, while a platoon of chasseurs would serve here as an integral part of a Norwegian infantry battalion for a similar period of time.
There were also similar exchange programmes with the Canadian army, and between the US National guard and the Norwegian Home guard youth.
There has also been a lot of co-training (especialy on winter warfare) between Norwegian units and similar units of other Nato countries.
Know that at least some of the operational concepts of my conscript unit were refined or replaced by new ones (particularly with regards to use of firepower) from exchange of ideas through such occasions of co-training (generaly more in the form of nicking ideas from the guest through observing their style of operating, rather than through direct tution from foreign advisers).

Now what kind of Norwegian host unit did those French soldiers stay with while they were here. Guess either the 6. Div recce battalion or one of the deep penetration raid infantry battalions would be sort of the right kind of host for a French recce unit?

When the French army trains abroad as part of a brigade-size exercise, they rarely team-up with a local unit because they have to remain at the overall disposition of the officier who commands the FTX.

If they go at platoon or coy size elements, then they link up with the locals and do some cross training.

In the recent past, the French army has held large scale exercises in the Czech republic, Senegal, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Ukraine,Norway, Djibouti, Germany and a few others...
