Is that Ceuta?
Regulares, Legion... and that statue with the old symbols... I guess at some point there was some debate about what to do with that thing.

NEGATIVE it is Melilla. And the monument is in Tribute to Deads (pro-Franco Side).

And the monument is in Tribute to Deads (pro-Franco Side). No! Really? I didn't notice, with the 'Una grande libre', the old falcon and the rest of the things...
That's what I meant, there has been a trend since 1978 to replace or modify some of those monuments in order to remove part of their symbolism. That is what I was asking about.
Is that the famous CETME mod. L on this picture ?

MiguelenCanarias, the patch of the legionarios is from the Tercio Gran Capitan from Melilla, and the M-60A3, TOAs and ARVs were from the regiment "Alcantara nº10".
Regards from Navarra.

Thanks Lagarto. My question was actually about where were the pictures taken, because of the monument. But thanks for the info anyway.

http://img129.imageshack.us/img129/5274/10062268hq.jpgYes, it is. It has been replaced by the HK G36, but apparently it is still used for certain occasions (or maybe is still in use in some units). Most likely the first option.

Considering that the overall design follows the german trend as set with the Leopard-based Bergepanzer Standard, it is indeed most likely a hull mounted MG

What do you mean? the Browning?

No, I meant the World War II style hull ball gun mount to the side of the driver.

Well, I was in Madrid a few months ago and I saw two soldiers in the front door of an Army building with the Cetme LC.

it's their famous pet, usually it's a goat, but this is too big...
Leopards 2 will be deployed soon in Ceuta and in Melilla, 20 of our M60 A3 TTS were sold to morocco for...ehem...1 €... (no comment)

The sheep, goat or boar (I believe there was a boar as pet of one of the banderas at one point, but I am not sure, probably not) learns to march the hard way: the legionario acting as carer does not refrain from kicking its butt to motivate the animal to march in an orderly fashion. At least that's what they say. Probably they didn't do that to the boar, but as I said, I am not sure if there was ever one.
Animal rights groups don't complain because
a) this is not the US and
b) Legionarios do not refrain from kicking the AR activist's butts either!

That's not how it works. They give Marihuana( "costo") to the sheep and during parades, a Legionnaire wears it in his pantas, so the sheep will march always behind him.

Really? so the animal has been turned into a drug-addict? now I see why Animal Rights groups don't complain. See? They don't beat the animal. Everything is ok...ish.

Marino, do you know if they kept a boar at one point in their history?
(Translated to Spanish): Oye, Marino, ¿por casualidad sabes si alguna vez alguna bandera de la Legión tuvo un jabalí (imagino que domesticado) como mascota? No estoy seguro, me da que no.

A bandera i'm not sure, a company sure they had, but i don't remember wich one.Anyway they have tons of pets, monkeys, warthogs, goats, parrots, sheeps, dogs, etc....

Appreciate your answers. So the sheep is a unit mascot (I thought it was something religious).
I read an awesome article about the Spanish foreign legion some 15 years ago (Millan Astray, the beginning, the Riff war to 1970's etc.). Definitely one of the most hardcore military formations of all time. I'm quite surprised that it is accepting women now  . What was the reason they stopped accepting foreigners and departed from "the old ways"?

Anybody ...?
MARINO

The reason was, they recruited few foreigners most of Legionaires were Spaniards, it also had a bad image. Now we accept South Americans and Equatorial Guieans in most units.
