I think it was the 9th company or something. I saw the movie, wasn't that great... I'd rather have Taegukgi.

I see they've learned from the Americans. Maybe someone should do Rambo vs 9 POTA.

It's very well made and a good film to watch as long as you can live with the fact that it distorts the actual event this movie claims to be based on, all for the sake of empty theatrics and gory bloodbath scenes... Political commentary also make it a bit like Russian version of "Platoon" - a lot of vets didn't like it and Afghan vets present during the actual event that this movie is based on certainly didn't like it...
Considering, that the director of the movie made everything in his daddy's power to avoid service Afghanistan - him making a movie and casting himself as one of the main characters is somewhat in poor taste IMHO.
I like it, but purely from cinematic point of view - the rest is very "Oliver Stone"...

its the 9th Company, I saw it too, nothing special, the usual storyline, a not so large Russian (in this case Soviet) force is up against a lot of afgans, almost everyone dies, they are all heroes. There is a similar movie about Chechnya - Thunder Gates, once again nothing special, or maybe its just me, but after watching documentaries, war movies arent interesting anymore

9 rota was...okay. The plot was too quick I think. They didnt really bring up any suspense of this massive attack. It was just oh, celebration, the guy goes out to draw the mountains and all these afghans come. There's no transition. But the action scenes were good, but the history and plotline was not that good.

All of those propaganda stories. Dont believe them much. If you want to understand some about real war in Chechnia - check this: its closest version to reality (russian speakers only - sorry)
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5551693627411468867&q=kak+ya+poehal
"60 hours of Maikop's brigade" also good, but not like this.

Best war movies were made in USSR.
A zori zdes tihie - Sunrises are quite here.
Oni srazhails za Rodinu - They fought for the Motherland.
Letiat zhuravli - Storks are flying.

9 Company=The Platoon.
In the end everybody dies except the main character.
And this appearance of these tablets pointing how far it is to Kiev, Tashkent, Moscow, etc. is very much Oliver Stone. Same stuff as in Platoon.
Fedor Bondarchuk will never live up to his father's fame. And besides the movie contains a lot of dumbass mistakes. Military vehicles have (ukrainian license plates?) For christ sake, couldn't they find the soviet ones?
No T-72 in Afgan war as shown in the movie. Only T-62s and T-55s.
Crimea is easily recognisable :) that's no Afgan mountains for sure and you can't erase that. Also the guy wearing 2004 year Adidas sneakers looks quite odd for 1989, hmm ;)

Very good series, well worth the time.....And Sergei, I think those are T-64's in that movie, they make very distinct sound and you can tell by the small wheels.
