Hi all
Today i heard a rumor about the "Pelorus", can someone here approve
following info about this ship?

I am curious because this ship/Yacht stays in the harbour of my hometown for the time of the soccer worldcup.here some info.

On June 9th the soccer world championship begins. And slowly but surely all the teams and fans flow into the country - also the Russian multi-billionaire Roman Abramowich and his 115-meter-„Pelorus”, which anchors in Luebeck until the end of the tournament at the 9th of July.
The 39 years old owner of the FC Chelsea club is an enthusiastic soccer fan and according to newspaper reports he is in the possession of tickets for all the world championship games. The papers report that he plans to fly to all the game-venues from his base „Pelorus“, with his own helicopter.
The sleek Luerssen-yacht anchors at the Behnkai, in front of the Luebecker Media dock. Besides „Pelorus” Abramowich owns, among others, the 86-meter-„Ecstasea “and the 108.30 meter long „Le Grand Bleu“.

According to the Russian(link above) text below the two pictures of Pelorus (thanks Babel Fish!) Pelorus has a mini submarine onboard as well as an anti- missile system. Some crew members are said to be ex-SAS (British special forces). The security features include a submarine for detecting limpet mines and bulletproof glass.

But this sounds like a James Bond movie for me.
I went to the harbour and had a look on this yacht.
I had no real cam, only my mobile phone, and so i dont want to show my crappy pictures.
Instead i will show some better pictures from the web.
Please notice the radars.

Those aren't all radar. Most of those are for comms (sat phone, internet, TV...).

I would also be very surprised to find an anti-missle system on that ship. Bulletproof glass would not be shocking though.

The thing has two helicopter pads. Those Russian oligarchs can afford anything and there's hardly a better (symbolical) target for anti-Russian terrorists, is there? I would not be surprised if it did have something to the effect.

btw I checked out som hires pics and there's just nothing to suggest any type of missile defense, hard or soft-kill... No sensors, no dispensers w/e ..

maybe on one of his other 5 yatchs ? that son-of-a-b...

Anti missile jamming maybe, he quite probably has hired ex sas or other military experts for security, there has been much talk on yacht forums that Paul Allen hired ex seals for OCTOPUS and he definately has a sub on his yacht. Everything I have read at http://powerandmotoryacht.zeroforum.com/ says that pelorus doesnt have a sub unless I missed something.

Maybe it has one of those boats that can go under water, like for checking out sharks and other animals. Heck, there's even pedal boats that can go under water :)

One I went on in Spain did that ... Never came back up though.

What kind of helo do those pads support? At most.

Years ago I meet a helo pilot who flew for Khashoggi (the arms dealer) during the 70's.

Whenever Khashoggi visited the US with his mega yacht, he had to keep it parked offshore because it was packing LARGE "anti-piracy devices".

I would not be surprised if both the Roman's and Paul's boats had similar devices as well.

Canīt tell you the max. weight but when i look at his yacht between 12 o'clock and 1 p.m.,i can always see 2 or 3 crewmember polishing this nice helicopter.

Perhaps this sub is "only" a small robot with a cam for searching explosives
on the hull ?!
I heard Mr.Abramovitch fears assasins a lot.

I ve seen a hatch on the starboard side open, behind was a motorboat
and enough space for more stuff like jet ski and so on.

Thanks for all replies, regards =DG=

Aristotle Onassis use to have an amazing cruise ship. the
crew was all ex member of German U-boot and they had an armada inside the ship
in is biography Onassis said that he felt safe everywhere he was in the world
and the captain of his ship was a top U-boot commander in WW-2...

Interesting..I guess it's not all that out there. If you have that much money, you're a target. Especially w/the increase in piracy in the oceans. What is OCTOPUS? I had heard of it referring to the organization of cia/etc that were supposedly behind some nefarious entanglements during the Vietnam war. enlightment would be appreciated.

Octopus is Paul Allens Giga Yacht, see attachments. It is the second Largest "privately" owned yacht and has an actual submarine it... you can see by the amphibious style landing bay that he can store rather large tenders etc... in the stern. Some of our SPT members provided security for a hollywood personality on board the Tatoosh (Paul Allens previous largest yacht) and that was one of the first references to Seals that was heard although since then I have read similar claims on the power and motoryacht forums.

p.s. The Octopus is 413' and massive as compared to Pelorus' 377' and sleek lines. If there is a submarine in Abromavichs inventory it would be on board his "Toys" SHip, the Le Grand Bleu. see fifth attachment

Jeez, it looks more like a small freighter than a large yacht. Thx for the info. I wonder if it has ever been "contracted" for some clandestine purposep-) . Thx for the info.

Well, as far as anti-missile protection goes, he probably could have some radar detection, and ECM gear, hell, even some chaff dispencers, but missile/gun systems? I find it hard to believe

@ Talos :Many thanks for those nice pictures

@ catalyst: From "Spiegel online" some kind of german newspaper/ political magazine

"Though detailed specifications remain a guarded secret, the Pelorus is thought to have an onboard anti-missile system and bullet proof glass. And to keep out those prying paparazzi, neon green night lights create a foggy glare around the deck, making any stolen pictures come out blurry."

For those who like videos:
Take a look at http://www.luerssen.de/flash.html
go to Yachts->video lounge and voila you find a short clip of the "Pelorus"

Btw. there is another yacht called "Skat" , here you can see clearly some influence from the military section of this shipbuilding company.

If someone who wants to kill this guy is actually able to aquire an antiship missle and the equipment needed to aim and launch it this guy really is in deep trouble. What do you think the likelyhood of that happening is?

It is far easier, to buy a sniper rifle, visit teh port where the ship lies and wait for hom to pop his head somewhere.....

That could work, depends on how bulletproof his glass is.

Nice yacht. But "Octopus" isn't the biggest one, I know of. The prince or king or sultan or whatever of Bahrain has a former ice-breaker converted to a yacht. It has a speed boat and a sailing boat hanging at each side. It's pretty huge. My old man installed the laundry, that's why I know of it ;)

Russians will honor the guy who finally takes on the oligarchs which looted and plundered their country during the 90s and destroyed the work of three generations of soviet people within few years. And bought western yachts and football teams with stolen money.

BTW why buying a cannon? An experienced diver and a satchel charge is cheaper an easier. Italians sunk two british battleships this way.

True. I don't care how close Abramovitch is to Russia or Putin, Germany would still do well to test out their latest ordanence on this guy's "Pelorus" or whatever his latest toy is. Preferablly with him inside it p-)

Octopus is the third largest privately owned yacht. The first is owned by a prince and is called "Al Salamah" at 456',( no this is not a converted tug) the second is owned by Larry Ellison of Oracle fame and is called "Rising Sun" at 452' and then "Octopus" owned by Paul Allen at 413'.
