No, not "naval infantry", these guys belong to one of France's 129 squadrons of Gendarmerie Mobile that are special anti-riots units.

The rifle is the old FRF1, still in use in those units that very rarely get to use them.

The Pakistanis in the Kosovo pictures are the MOST USELESS ragtag bunch of wankers I have ever seen. All they did was to cower in their barracks drawing UN pay while we did the crowd control and the riots.

Yeah the article in Danish says that 4 F-16´s and about 100 men are going
to be stationed in Lithuania. These countries will join NATO the 1st April and
are not capable of defending their own airspace. Within the frame of NATO
Denmark will do this to start with. Denmark, Finland and Sweden has been
helping the Baltic countries out quite a lot since they got independent, I guess
this is just a further development of that.

Or maybe, only just maybe, they want to make sure they are not confused with US soldiers...

That's the reason why many armies have retained the "green based" camo in Afghanistan while the US have always worn the "desert" BDUs there. This way there is no confusion between "them" (the US) and "us" (the others).

A sort of cheap life insurance in a way...

I imagine it is to avoid friendly fire incidents. Otherwise, what a great way to show solidarity, "we're not really with them, please don't shoot us. Shoot them, they are the Americans." If it is to avoid looking like US troops, (which I doubt), then I would have to say that they are a bunch of cowards and I wouldn't want any troops that practiced this kind of low behavior in my AOR.

Or maybe, just maybe, the Canadians are short on arid CADPAT? You know how much money they spend on defense...maybe they can't afford buying X thousand uniforms all the time. The Germans wear desert camo.

It's not a cheal type of life insurance. It's economics. That plus they are peacekeepers now. THey WANT to stand out...a show of presence and authority. Why else would the UN paint their equipment white and their peacekeepers' helmets blue?
