Well, all I can say is TO works extremely hard on his game.

You have to understand the context of the Cowboys since we lost Aikman. Our offense has been piss-poor for that period of time, mainly because of these 3 problems:

1.) Lack of experience/talent/sobriety at the quarterback position

2.) Lack of work ethic/pride/continuity on the offensive line

3.) An offensive player (WR, TE, HB) who can command attention and possibly take a safety/linebacker off the line of scrimmage

Parcells solved #1, he's working on #2, and Eldorado Owens is that #3. Combine Owens with Jason Witten, who is also extremely hard to match up against (safety? linebacker?), plus an explosive, although not as durable as we'd like to see, halfback in Julius Jones. Fasano out of Notre Dame may also be a coverage problem on Glenn's side, when he's on the LOS. We're going to a two-TE set, which may draw in a safety on Glenn's side.

Owens, in my opinion, will be a good addition...he's been doubled his whole career. That won't necessarily get in his head, and he doesn't have to worry about Mr. Roy Williams breaking his leg again. ;)

Yeah, you seem to be under some form of protection from the mods that nbody else has. I can not speak for my fellow mods at present, however you must remember that it is because of certain individuals constantly pushing the envelope that the current situation has arisen.

You also have to remember that MP.Net is only here in the first place because of the huge efforts of Hood, and that the job of moderating such a large forum 24/7 is not an east task. It was not my intention to attempt to dictate what is and what is not allowed.

Just as an example, what rule was broken that caused the deletion of the scientology thread? Was it the video that was linked? If I recall correctly, Johnny H put a warning about the video. Is scientology not to be discussed? Were there replies from certain members that caused the deletion?

It seems that some rules are broken in a subtle way, and perhaps enumerating these gray areas would help members better understand the current situation.

As far as I am concerned, everyone is on a level playing field, however as CJ said earlier poking a Mod with a pointed stick is not a way to make friends and influence people, it may well result in getting whacked with a much larger stick in return.

If you consider that on numerous occasions bans have been issued to members for continued arguing with Mods, insulting Mods etc., I suppose you may have a point, but put yourself in the situation of any one of the Mods on this board - This is a large community of many thousand members, many of whom have pretty extreme views of what they think is right, and they will go to extreme lengths to try and prove this often to the great annoyance of the majority - we have to wade in and try and sort the situation. To give another example, here in OT&H, a small minority of members seem to think they rule the roost and can dictate what does and doesn't go - this again is not the case and is a difficult situation for the Mods.

We will enforce forum rules and you may not like it, but without moderation the result will be anarchy which is not ging to happen here.

Another point worthy of consideration. Most of the Mods are older than the majority of our membership, I for one am probably the same age as many of your parents. Call me an old fart if you like I am used to it, but I have been around the block a few more times than most of you. I will use my experience of life - and believe me after 20 years as a Customs Officer amongst other things I've seen plenty of it - to judge what I think is right and wrong on this board. Similarly the other Mods have a huge range of experience and use is accordingly.

I wouldn't wish to be in a moderators position, I know that I'm far too petty and vindictive (That's my favourite phrase for describing myself) to do it.

The thing I wish to make absolutely clear is that I have no problem with the issue of cleaning up the board and getting rid of arseholes, and if people such as myself are included in that then so be it, but the moderators and what SOCNET refer to as the BTDTs need to lead by example. When respected members here such as Argyll and Ngati call people f*cksticks at the drop of a hat for calling a contractor a "mercenary" or daring to disagree on some aspect of Iraq policy then it's setting a fairly bad example to everyone else. Not for a minute am I suggesting that they're responsible for the general idiocy around here, but it's not going to help when you're trying to crack down on everyone else.

I think there are better ways to go about moderating and then the self moderation of the group kicks in. I'm not saying to leave the site go "unchecked". That's jumping to an extreme.

I'd suggest creating more Usergroups. One for each forum on the site. Give all users access to them all at first and if they violate the group dynamics established in a given forum and the members of that forum seem to be in agreement.... revoke that users "write" priviledges for that forum. Eventually you might have some users that can only post in Off Topic. So be it. You might have a few that get banned altogether. That'll be neccessary sometimes. But overall I think it would make the site nicer for everyone.

Next I'd suggest assigning moderators to forums they have a vested interest in. For example, if a Mod doesn't normally post in Off Topic nor see a purpose for it because it's Non-Mil, then they are not someone that should be Moderating it because they'll never understand the group dynamics of that forum. Likewise with the other forums on the site.

Whether the hardcore Military types like it or not --- Off Topic is the most popular section of the site based on Post Count. And every time someone posts they are refreshing the screen and generating new banner ads that help support the site. I'd venture to guess that the Strickly Photos forum is probably tops for Page Views, but Off Topic has a solid role in supporting this site - like it or not.

I've been a forum Moderator. I understand it's a chore and that you'll never please everyone.

Personally, I don't have an issue with things like "flame wars" if two or a group of users confine their madness to one thread. The fact that the thread is active has no impact on anyone that takes the personal responsibility to not view nor participate in the thread. If a user starts stalking someone for the sake of arguement all over the forum that's another issue. But if two people are willing hashing out a topic in one thread..... who cares.

If a photo thread (eg Babes) is started and includes a warning in the subject line I don't have an issue with it. Anyone that shouldn't be opening it from work or school has the personal responsibility to put their job or school first. That's not the Moderators responsibility. If ****s are a no-no, then revoke "write" priviledges or ban the users that violate that rule.
