It's Fathers Day here in the US.
I dont know how much of the planet celebrates this day...but I love and miss my Father greatly.

Semper Fi Daddy....you'll always be the best!

And to all the other Fathers out there that step up and do what dads do....

Thanks fellas....!!!

What is the story behind this? I once read that a woman wanted to thank her father who, alone and with 5 other children, did manage to raise 6 children.

In Greece, there isn't such. Only Mother's Day.

we celebrate fathers day in Mexico as well, at least in the northern regions. Just one more of those imported US holidays. we normally sing the "maņanitas"to my father and give him some gifts, usually guy stuff like tools or electronics, in the evening we get together for dinner. Too bad i had to work today, otherwise i would have taken my dad to the chinese buffet to dig on all you can eat shrimp.

If I ever sang to my dad he'd punch me in the mouth and disown me for being queer.

Been a few days here, we pitched in to give him a new digital camera (so he would stop borrowing ours), the Canon A540, because I have the A520.

He came up here complaining, the lowest res was 1600x1200 (apart from 640x480-postcard), he has a 15" monitor so needs to resize all his pics. ffs. I found him behind his PC resizing 500 pics he took, one at a time. I laughed for about 30 minutes, then I got him a mass resizer.

He's a crazy old man.

Congrats to the fathers on the board. Keep raising your kids well so I don't get robbed by them in 10 years.

I bought my dad some nice beer at a shop down here. I got him a bottle of Budvar/Czechvar, a Spaten Optimator, a Legunitas Stout, and little party keg of EKU Pils. Should keep him busy for a while.

I'm going up to meet my family at some kind of redneck tough truck and dirt track race. I can't decide if I should wear my Carharts and steal-toed boots, or ball-length cut-off jeans and some high tops. Suggestions?!

not much into singing my self, my prefered medium is modern expressive dance (joke)

my dad is a musician in a mariachi band so he apreciates anithing musical . It is the custom in mexico to wake up people in the morning with singing on these types of holidays and birthdays. besides, someone has to sing bass to accompany my sis and my mother, too bad my sister cant pick a tone for her own health so our chorus sound like $hit but its the effor that counts.

it was better when i was a teenager cause back then my brother and live-in cousin would play the vihuela and guitarron and we sounded more proper.

I've admired Mexican family traditions for years. I like the idea of huge family gatherings and doing stuff like this. My family, being WASPs, doesn't have large family gatherings and the few times we all get together it is very low-key and usually revolves around the TV instead of talking to each other.

Lame, I know. I need to find a good latin woman with a large family. I have no problem becoming Catholic for that. :)

Hellfish6, Greek families have this tradition. Convert to Orthodoxy and no problem.

"My Big Fat Greek Wedding" is a good example of family gatherings. Especially during Easter.

BTW, clean your PM INBOX!!

Hellfish
06-18-2006, 03:26 PM
I cleaned it!

Actually I've been to a couple Orthodox ceremonies before (dated a waitress from a Greek-owned restaurant in college) and I always thought they were awesome. Orthodox churches are also beautiful on the interiors. And the local Orthodox church always used to have Greek Fests, which were tons of fun.

Unfortunately, there are few Greek women I've been attracted to...

I lost my father last year due to stomach cancer. He had been a heavy smoker for a long time, and we didnt have a good relationship, but believe me, everything is forgotten when you see someone, lying on a bed in the hospitals "wait for death" room, with counted (but forgotten) nearly 20 drips. Thats so hard to see

It's been a couple of days that it was father's day here in Belgium. I got my dad a Zippo lighter and the rest of us got him a new hair-trimmer. We just BBQed a bit till I had to go to work. Was pretty fun.

Sorry to hear about all the folks here that lost their dad.
