Hmm, I wonder on what happened to this guy here? It does say "bloody eye" but is that truly something that happened or just something of a "make up effect" to raise the atmosphere?

Is that a Ksp M/58 that guy on the left is holding?

Is that a Ksp M/58 that guy on the left is holding?

A Ksp 58b actually, the original 58´s introduced (well in 1958) was of the then
standard calibre in Sweden, 6.5 x 55 mm. In "combat squads" it´s being more
and more replaced by the Ksp 90 and Ksp 90b (Minimi, and Mimini Para). But the
58b will not in any way dissapear. The usage of it has changed over the years,
in the beginning there was this thing called "Ksp omgång", a specific MG squad
that had as their main role to suppress the enemy and give cover when the
others assaulted. Nowadays it seems to be used as kind of a SAW, the gunner
has it as a individual weapon, and then the other guys also carry ammo to him
in old gasmask bags.

The 58b´s will be modified to Ksp 58c, a Minimi Para-type of stock, a rail attached
to the cover, and hm what was it more? And oh yes of course, a Aimpoint on the rail.

The little box vehicles - holy **** - why would someone make something like that ? It looks so top heavy ? Did you have problems with them ?
Looks like the top speed is 3 mph . Is there a tactical advantage to them ?
Never seen anything like that before . What is it called , id like to research it . Fascinated by it . Tanx !

Well it´s a old design from the 60´s, they are not comfortable and you can´t
drive very fast with them, but they are extremely basic, easy to repair and so
forth. The reason to why it´s high and not wide is because of the terrain here,
difficult to squeeze a Humvee between the trees.

from the Ruskies, but since they live in USA all of them I guess they feel a need to
be special or something.

Yeah, you said it.

As I said before it's real freakin' fair to mock someone else's country or talk all sorts of stuff about an individual user in Russian when the target can't understand it himself.

That's what I said in my message, since apparently two can play that game.

It wasn't intendent for you guys, it was meant for the russian speaking members of the forum. It also can not be translated into english because it would make no sense, it will get lost in translation...

Did it ever cross your mind that this site might be visited by some russians who do not speak english? I wrote those explanatory comments for them.

Also for some reason you, our dear viking friends, think that those comments are derogatory - prove it....

Simple economics. Why invest lots of money in R&D and build your own when what you need already exists. It isn't an insult to ones country just because they use some foreign equipment :).

That's because they were sold by Germany from old East German army (NVA) stocks and were bought for half-nothing. Sweden got close to 900 of them!

Now they sort of regret it because keeping so many costs a lot of money. They are mostly useful in the North of Sweden where the ground is boggier...

Do you know how they open and close the door on the MTLB in the Swedish army ? they have to use a wrench because the doors keep on flying open when travelling if they are not bolted shut with a wrench every time...

Lol, this is just great, another thread hijacked and encrypted by Evil-Ivans ninja-kyrillic (spelling?) ultrahightechleetkthxallyourbasearebelongtousEncrypt0rmachine0r! Dang, what are we ever to do?! ;)

As for russian equipment in the swedish army, the only things i can think of are the MT-LB and BMP-1 (pbv 401 and 501 by our designation, being discontinued).
I have no experience with neither of the above mentioned, I served on the pbv 302, but a mate of mine served on the BMP-1. According to him it was pretty allright as long as you weren't taller than 175 cm's...

Question for our russian zealots:
Does anyone have detailed info on the BMP-1? Engine, fording capabilities, stereo-manufacturer, and so on? It's a sweet-lookin ICV, I give you that.

Does anyone have detailed info on the BMP-1? Engine, fording capabilities, stereo-manufacturer, and so on? It's a sweet-lookin ICV, I give you that.

why don't you guys purchase some BMP3s ?

Because we already have CV90 and don´t need any. Sweden has bought
armour from Russia = bad experience. Also the Swedish Navy has bought
a ship from Russia, it had to be scrapped because it was total piece of ****
and the repairs would have cost too much. I think the last time Sweden bought
Russian military hardware was 2-3 years ago when there was some scandal,
and the Russians accused Sweden of "stealing military secrets", it was some
newly developed radar that Sweden had bought from some "businessman".

Buying Russian armour and stuff? No way. Maybe if we can get them for free.

Im not sure the BMP-3 was on the international market when the first versions of CV90 entered service. I know that we looked at the Bradley and Warrior ICVs, but none of them were up to our needs in an ICV.

No, because you are cheap...

I have myself some experience with the MT-LB
from my army days = useless piece of **** that I wouldn´t want to be near

You do realise that it is a TRACTOR, right?
MTLB stands for "small lightly armored tractor", it was not exactly meant as infantry fighting vehicle...
So my question is: what are you using it for?

Well, the Swedish designation is Pansarbandvagn (Pbv) 401, which means
armoured tracked vehicle. It´s not used as a IFV, to that Sweden have the
CV90, and to some extenth also Pbv 302 (with a 20 mm automatic cannon).
It´s used kind of as a tractor in Sweden as well, to transport equipment and
soldiers. But that doesn´t help it from leaking diesel so that you have the whole
floor filled up when you wake up one morning, and still, opening the door with a
wrench!

Tests in Sweden have also showed that the side-armour can in worst case be
pierced by 5.56, so I wouldn´t really trust its ability to protect me if it was targeted
by artillery or whatever. I would rather walk after the vehicle than moving in it,
it can be seen and would be a target, and it can be heard from hundreds of
meters away. Good features though is the power and the MG (PKT - Ksp 95),
probably the best in the world. Some Swedish Pbv 401 photos:

Deutchersoldat. No that is not a tank. It´s a Combat Vhiecle 9040. It´s for troop transport in mechanised combat. It has a 40 mm automatic cannon among other things. Our main battletank is a Leopard 2. Here we have two types of Leo2, the 121 and the 122. The 121 is basically a rented Leo2. And the 122 is a heavilly modified version of Leo2. It is one of the best MBT:s in the world.

Because they can built a simple AK-47 but a car like the cheapest Mercedes isnt reachable development in the next 50 years !

At first, let me remind you that at the time that we bought some of the Russian equipment we were very much "friends" with the soviet union. Surely we could've bought western stuff, but I'm sure that the great motherland would've probably been a bit irritated.

Secondly, the FDF is freakin' poor and has the suckiest budget management ever. Surely we manage to make some good trades once in a while, but for the most part our biggest flaw is the fact that we use hopelessly outdated equipment in some areas or make stupid deals that at the end turn out to be less beneficial than we expected.

Maybe we're poor, or maybe we're cheap, but all I know is that our "material acquisition" guys aren't exactly the brightest so far.

Now surely "the guys" finally understood that we need a new MBT, but surely we would need more personal equipment made for the regular infantry soldier as well.

And now there's a completely new "M/05" equipment line being planned and constructed, wheew...

[And now there's a completely new "M/05" equipment line being planned and constructed, wheew...

Which in my humble opinion it´s a failure already from the beginning, since it´s
not a "true combat BDU" like the m/62, but the m/05 (as the m/91) must be
beautiful as well, because it is also intended to be used by the soldiers on leave.
Well that´s nice, but it also makes them less useful out in the forest. And, m/05
in many ways feels lika a step backwards to me. I mean, it has ordinary buttons
instead of these press buttons and zippers just to save some lousy Euros. Sucky
sucky. Those big pockets would be perfect for a lots of things, as reloading the
assault rifle and putting the empty magazines there, works great when having
zippers, but not ordinary buttons.

But hm, the combat vest vill be a improvement I guess, and the camo is probably
more effective than the rather ugly m/91. But the design of the Swedish m/90
(and the Finnish m/91 which is basically the same **** but with different camo)
is great, loved it during my 10 months. Ordinary buttons is the suxxors.

What does Finland's army old soviet equipment have to do with this topic?

Finland and Russia were friends, really?
I, as well as other Russians, always thought of Finland as another westen/capitalist country.
And I still do not understand why you didn't want to "irritate" USSR by buying western equipment, Finland was/is a sovereign country, right?

Well, Sweden uses Russian armour because they didn´t cost much. I´m not
sure about the number but it was something like a MT-LB for around $1000.
The BMP-1´s was not much more exepensive, give or take a couple of thousand
dollars. A new CV90, made in Sweden would have costed more like $2.000.000

And it´s clear to me that you don´t no **** about Finnish-Soviet relationship

Hm? I think not. People in Finland doesn´t want to be part of NATO according
to opinion polls. Especially when NATO bombed Serbia, in hm -99 I think the polls

Yes, I must confess that I got a bit disorientated with what you said and all, and I thought that it was also something that concerned Finland.

Then again, your knowledge of both of these armed forces is laughable so I'm sure that this little piece of information was nothing but good and much needed knowledge to you.

Now, the other topic.

Finland and the USSR signed a "YYA"-treaty (translation?) that was more or less something of an forced attempt to create friendship between these two nations.

And at times it worked, but it was considered by many to be just something that we had to agree into due to the political situation of that time.

We belonged to the USSR's "backyard" and we did have our "sovereignity" but the USSR surely had the guts to interfere slightly to our politics once in a while.

Surely Finland was a sovereign country, but it still belonged to the USSR's sphere of influence. Mainly due to Finland being a mix of western and eastern "blocks".

I suggest you study this period of your country's history, since it will surely give you alot more information than I can.

Why?

Is Finland going to join NATO yes/no and what are the "pro" & "cons" of such union?

I wouldn't know if Finland joins NATO in the future, and I doubt that neither does the prime minister of India.

However, there's much of debate over this going in here and it would seem that the first "virtue" that NATO would take away from us in the event of a membership would be our neutrality.

I suppose that this might be true to some extent, but of course further speculation wouldn't help the outcome at all. Also, we would be paying millions of Euros annually for the NATO membership and surely our defence budget would rise due to it.

However, the things that would probably be the "better sides" of the membership are listed as follows (my opinion):

-In theory, we could acquire modern equipment for our armed forces with less prices but would probably have to make the FDF a professional force of soldiers instead of the conscript service that we have in place now.

-We would get properly motivated people to the armed forces, instead of the conscripts. Thus, the training methods could be updated to more physically and mentally demanding ones instead. The downside would of course be that our armed forces would have to be greatly diminished in size and question our whole preparedness during a crisis in Finland.

The downsides, as follows:

-Basically, would about 20.000 or so troops be enough to defend Finland from an foreign invader, despite their high morale and excellent training ?

-What guarantees would we have from NATO to assist us in case of an invasion into Finland by a hostile nation? Would they pack some Bundeswehr troops to assist us or perhaps bring the U.S.S. Constellation to the gulf of Finland ?

-The conscription-based defence force would have to be shut down and therefore leave a very big hole into the national defence of our country.

-Would we be targeted by the terrorists as well? would our soldiers be sent to fight wars to faraway lands and die?

Etc. etc.

Kind of like, look Russians left - WE ARE THE ****!

If Stalin wanted Finland as bad, our granparents would of made you Fins eating snow 3 times a day.

Interesting, we took Germany and changed their history, but didn't take Finland?

MAybe there is a reason? Like Russian Texan said before, we don't need no stinky Finland. We have plenty of our own snow and fish.

But I need to research more on Finland paying Russia money for not invading them again issue. Thats awesome PAY US or we will .... you know
Oh you are stupid piece of **** :bash:
Winterwar was before WWII. So Russia made ALL trying to conquer Finland. But what happened ? dead russians everywhere.
Poor Russians :petting:
Yea, Becouse you were allied with the Nazi. In the seekend winter war hitler helps you.

You know, I urge you to research our relations with Germany during the 40's and the Finnish-Russian "YYA"-treaty before coming over here and talking complete nonsense.

Therefore, you are very much mistaken.

Firstly, I'm sure that it is very suitable for the Russians to consider Finland as being "with the Nazis" since we indeed did receive weapons from them and the Germans were pretty much "pro-Finnish" at first.

We gave them areas of Lappland to garrison in, but we certainly did not follow every command that they wanted us to fulfill.

Research the topic of the "Lappland war" and what Mr. Mannerheim's relations were with Hitler at that time, I urge you to. Also, find information concerning the events in St. Petersburg during our offensive in 1942.

We were just there to regain Karelia back, so we halted our advance to the Finn-Russian border despite what the Germans asked us to do. We respected our original plan, what stated that nothing else besides what used to be Finnish soil is retaken , of course the Germans wanted us to continue our advance to St. Petersburg but we didn't.

Mainly, our relations with the Germans were just established due to our severe lack of weapons. The Germans had weapons and we needed them. We never belonged to the "Axis states" despite what alot of people would like to believe.

Hah hah, and your point is?

The Russian attack into Finland in 1939 was a revenge from the raids that some bearded fellows made into the east during the metal-age ?

Please, try something more original. Or use the old classic if nothing else works: blame the shots fired at Mainila to be something that we actually started.

German space program lol

why invent bicycle if its been already invented.

leave the space to the profesionals. Its already conquered by Russian and Americans. All you can do now is to watch and enjoy.

The other day on History channel there was a program about Babi Yar. German SS units came into Ukraine, and killed 300,000 + civilians.

This was just one town out of thousands where NAZIs came and slaughtered our people. What did you expect the Russians do? Sit and suck german ****, and watch our people slaughter like pigs?

Our grandparents came all the way to Berlin, and exterminated all the nazis. They should of left Germany in dust for what they did to our people throughout Russia.

Actually, neither the Americans or Russians have conquered the space. Merely you have just sent a man to the moon.

And that's a looong way from "conquering the space", so talk to you again when you've reached Proxima Centauri and not even then the job's done.

Let me point out to you, kind sir, the physiological impossibilities of such action being taken by Haiw.

First of all, let us asume that Haiw is of medium build, for simplicitys sake 180 cm's, weighing something like 75 kgs. And for the record, let us refrain from any comments about Haiws mother, who Im sure is a very decent woman. So nothing of the sort when speaking of the necessary space needed for Haiw to reboot his birth.

Secondly, its a matter of conception. For the previously mentioned action to be possible, Haiw would have to reverse his developmental procedure, reverting to a fetus, then back to a fertilized egg and then back to 2 separate units, 1 sperm cell and one egg. Clearly this is impossible, and for the record, just plain silly.

Now how about we all agree to obey the laws of nature from now on, OK?

You know, I agree with you yet again.

The only problem that the designers of these outfits seem to constantly forget is that in order to make a good BDU/leave outfit they are going to have to be two different sets of clothing.

And in my opinion the FDF is scrapping the whole M/91-line of equipment way too soon, and now already they're designing new boots and helmets, new field caps etc.

The funniest part is, that not all of the conscripts even get to wear the various M/91 clothing items, for an example the "field cap M/91" is not something that you'll see issued in Vekaranjärvi. Not to mention the horrible problem with the lack of composite helmets.

And then there's not enough M/91's to go around for "training exercises" and something needs to be done with the aging M/62's....

That´s a much disputed question, in example Sweden in Finnish is Ruotsi, could
be connected to Roslagen (in the Stockholm area) or Rossija. Perhaps perhaps,
but Russian Texan is probably to stupid to admit it even if he believes us. But
one things for sure, he doesn´t know the answer himself either.

Yes they do, and apparently better ones than in Sweden ;)

Quote from your source:

According to the legend, in the early part of the 9th century Scandinavian people known as the Varangians crossed the Baltic Sea and landed in Eastern Europe.

According to the legend......

So who lived there before "according to the legend", before 9 th century A.D.?
Do you know?
I do.
1000 years B.C., Eastern Europe, as well as Eastern, Southern Russia and parts of central Russia were populated by "Skifs", also known as "Arians" and "Skoloty".
Since you like and trust legends so much, I suggest you look up Hercules's adventures.
According to the legend Hercules got his bow from the Skif named Tevtar, who also taught him how to shoot it.
Vikings involvement into Russian history is well known but they came into land already populated by skifs/arians/skolots or people later named slavs...
May I also suggest you do not use "travel guides" as a historical referrence...

Exactly, what has your claim that there were people there before the vikings
came got to do with anything? As you may know (but probably just ignore)
is that your beloved Rossija of course comes from something with "Ros", not those
other nations you mentioned.

And tadaa, how did this Ros come to power and how did they become so powerfull,
and more interestingly, why did it happen in the same region where the vikings
had the power and not down in Ukraine or east of the Ural mountains or whatever?

Your knowledge in history is poor, and since not even the professors really know,
but just speculate about the Roslagen - Ruotsi - Rossija-connection, I don´t feel
any need to debate this with you, you live in your little paradigm and whatever
I say you will still believe in yourself and no one else.

I don't know...what does the fact that Americas were already populated before Columbus discovered them has to do with the course of history? It is an analogy in case you didn't get it.

Yes, I know that, so?

And tadaa, how did this Ros come to power and how did they become so powerfull,
He was invited by the local slavic tribes to take charge of them.
and more interestingly, why did it happen in the same region where the vikings
had the power and not down in Ukraine or east of the Ural mountains or whatever?
Because those tribes who invited vikings lived there...?

Let me simplify and put it in perspectiuve for you:
Imagine Russia invades Sweden and completely takes over the country: destroys cultural heritage, forbids native language, installs pupet government, in short - completely russifies the country...

In three thousand years, people will look at Russden(former Sweden) and will think: what are the origins of that country - Russian or Swedish?...
Do you get my point?

But it's still childish as hell.

Oh, but I hear that you had to look it up. :D I´m sorry, just a word historians
like to use you know. To make it simple for you it can be translated to "world
understanding", obviously (luckily) you and I are living in different paradigms.

You know, in the middle ages they were living in a very religious paradigm,
thus everything was squeezed in to this explanation. The plague etc could
be explained with religion. If you imagine a paradigm as a bubble. More and more
explanations are squeezed in. And then came the renaissance with Copernicus
and these chaps that came up with all this that was impossible to squeeze in to the
bubble. The bubble bursted.

So will yours one day. All that idiocy that you squeeze in there, and when it
burst you will hopefully do something drastic with your life. If you do not do what
Russians usually do, seek help deep down in the vodka bottle, maybe you´ll even learn
something and become a good laddy. There is still hope for you.
