ROWLETT, Texas -- A man shot and killed his wife and 18-year-old son before taking his own life, police said Tuesday.
The names of the family were not being released until relatives could be notified, authorities said.
Authorities went to the family home Tuesday morning after complaints from a Dallas publishing house that the mother and son had missed work for a second day, Lt. David Nabors of the Rowlett Police Department said.
Officers found the man, 59, shot in the head in the foyer with a gun nearby. His 42-year-old wife was discovered shot in the head and torso in the couple's bed, and the son had was dead with similar wounds in a nearby bathroom, Nabors said.
The family dog was found cowering in an upstairs bedroom.
Police believe the shooting occurred sometime Sunday, Nabors said.
He said authorities were awaiting autopsy results and did not have an explanation for the apparent murder-suicide.
