US threatened Sweden with sanctions over piracy

The United States warned Sweden earlier this year that if the country did not act to stop illegal file sharing it would face tough sanctions from the World Trade Organization, a Swedish official said Tuesday.

A swirling controversy over the closure of the popular file-sharing website The Pirate Bay on May 31st left many wondering who was behind the raid. The American government and the powerful Motion Picture Association were responsible for urging police action, Swedish government officials have now admitted.

Yeah, the raid on the pirate bay was actually pushed by the MPAA. And no, that's not a conspiracy theory, they say so themselves. The raid was done based on criminal complaints filed, complaints which should never have gone through as the Bay does not violate Swedish law.

They will never be able to clamp down on piracy in Sweden. Even the police say that they do not have the resources or will to do it. And I don’t see how they are going to arrest and prosecute 1 500 000 Swedes. They will continue to do these symbolic operations and eventually take out a special tax so that you can download legally.

I scoff openly at your pointing, clicking and text based resource identification! Inside the jewel-encrusted vault at their mega-complex at the Earth's core, residing in a supercooled container made from the anodized skull fragments of Nobel laureates and serial killers, DARPA holds the recipe to make 1's and 0's in a bath of molten gold. Don't make them tear it up!
