Would anyone in the US know if this magazine sells on US News stands? It use to back in the late 80s early 90s....I have no modern news stands or magazine stores in my area, just ma and pa shops that only carry local magazines....

I have the entire 28 volume hardcover set of Combat and Survival books (put out by the same folks) as well as "Combat" and "Survival", are two separate volumes. Lotta good stuff in them. You see them now and then on Ebay.

great Q... I checked out the Ebay page and like to buy the back issues (not wanting to snatch them from your face East Scout), they contain great info+pics and love the british 1980's style with 58' webbing and SLR's

But I AM VERY CONFUSED with book do they mean magazine.. because there seem to be many books based on the magazine... and I own one book based on the magazine (red with a us soldier +m16a1 on front in the jungle looking towards the camera, sniper pic on the back) which is called SURVIVAL not combat and survival... so how may books of combat and survival are there and are they really books or is it just used instead of magazine? how may magzine issues are there up to date?

I have the same harcover book "Survival" that's based on the magazine. There's a companion volume to that called "Combat". Then there's a 28-volume set of hardcover books - also based on the magazine called "Combat and Survival". There's some overlap of content in between the smaller "Combat and Survival" volumes and the separate, larger "Combat" and "Survival" books.

The ebay auctions I linked were for the 28-volume hardcover book series.

wow 28 hard cover books!! I found that part hard to beleive you see. The book Survival is indeed excellent. I never get bored of reading it and everytime I discover new things. I must look out for the Survival counterpart.

Do you know to which dat the volume first of the 28 volume books starts from?

Combat and Survival magazine was one of the top military mags in Europe during the 90's with much detail on kit and survival -tactics like guerilla warfare, ambushes etc. It was the first magazine who published a series of articles about SAS selection. Then it was sold i think and changed the original form.

Ahhhhh, happy days. That was when they started printing black ink on dark purple pages and for 6 months could barely get a photo caption right. They turned a class mag into utter drivel overnight. I never bought it again

Yeah Id recommend getting the series..I have found a few pieces of mis-information in the books but nothing serious to warrent giving it a bad name..Its a lot of info and some is bound to be off.No one is perfect..I dont know if they overlap much but a lot of the inof in the early magazines is put strait into the 28 volumes.....Is that what you ment?;-)
