Well its 1:20 in the morning and im bored as hell. Just serfin the web and im lookin at the Stalker site. (for those of you who dont know Stalker is an up and comming PC game that im highly anticipating)They have this article on Chernobyl. It says that people are still living there. Is that true? The pictures looked kind of creepy to me. Whats that whole area like now? How big of an area is it? Heres a link to the Stalker site and the article.

Slightly off-topic: If you are interested in Stalker, I heartily recommend the book by the same name, by Stugarsgi brothers, the game is based on it.

Way more fun than the game...the website is wacked...

theres also a few reactors working at the old plant, the lewer of free electricity, many of the residents would rather die at home then be relocated, I want to visit one day.

Kind of creepy to see a modern town abandoned like that. I'll say one thing though - mother nature will reclaim even paved & built up areas in short order. Give that place another 20 years, and it will be difficult to detect that people ever lived there at all.

The actual city of Chernobyl is not as infected as the Pripyat.

The Pripyat is the dead city. It was evacuated in 30 hours. Today its there without a single soul in it.

Everything is there like it was left in 1986. CREEPY

So then what is the area called Chernobyl? I thought Chernobyl was the city. So Pripyat is the actual city?

Chernobyl is the name of the nuclear reactor.
The actual city named Chernobyl is far from it.

People who worked at the nuclear plant lived 3 km away in the city called Pripyat.

Its an abandoned ghost town now.

The game takes place in the 30km "Zone"

Pripyat is the center. They developers took photo-textures of each building outside and inside. The game will have entire city of Pripyat. Every building modeled, including interior with furniture, and other belongings left in the flats.
