Unfortunately not - it is permanently anchored in San Diego.

I've been to the USS Intrepid moored off Manhattan in New York- same kind of thing, also well worth a visit. Definitely have to go to SoCal sometime.

Yes, the museum is only two years old, and the aircraft had fresh paint jobs before being put on display. The painting crews actually had their names listed on the aircraft.

Some trivia: When the Midway museum idea was brought up with the Navy, the Navy said that they would need to have 600,000 visitors a year to break even financially. The Navy anticipated less than 300,000 visitors a year. The volunteer tour guides were proud to point out that they had nearly a million visitors in the first year alone.

Another interesting fact: The Sikorsky Sea King on display was used in five Apollo recoveries. You can see the Apollo capsules painted on the side.

Some great aircraft on that ship. The A-3 and A-5 are two of my all time favorites. Definately gotta check it out.

That's really cool, about the Apollo Heli. I'm, sure the cali climate will treat the planes nicely.

Holy sh*t that's a HAL-3 bird!! That was my Father's old unit in Vietnam! Wow...I remember running around on the Midway at its home port of Yokosuka, Japan.....man, these pictures bring back A LOT of memories. Much respect to the HAL-3 guys and Chriscobain for this GREAT post! This just made my day! woot woot woot

Very Nice just a pity we hadn't done that with the old ark royal or Eagle. Hopefully Invincible will become a floating museum to FAA and Falklands when the Navy decide to retire her.
