Yes I agree, and I would pick either the Heckler & Koch G36 Rifle or Carbine and/or the Heckler & Koch 416. Why? Because their German. :D

I'll bite.
I like the idea of the SCAR but I don't foresee it being adopted by the BIG army. Gas piston M4's are the most likely but I wouldn't really expect that either.
An accurised AK based system using the 7.62 by 39 round.
Battle proven, ie it is robust.
Simple to teach and to use.
The calibre is sufficient to put down short-eared soft-skin game (us).
Modern variants have the modular capacity to hang off all the Gucci gear.
Open to whether its bullpup or not but if so it must have the ability to convert to left ejection for left-handed users.

My vote is still for the AK, wheather its the AK-47, 74, 101, 103, etc. Their all great weapons, my personal favorite is the AK-101 though.

How much do you want to hang off your toy? The newer AK series provide for attachments for all your needs. You have RIS...I have AKSMS .

Wholly hamster ****! How did I manage to miss this party! I can't believe I didn't get a chance to hammer this friggin poser. Dammit! Anyway.. other than referring to him as the slaughtered "piggy," good job all.
And on topic... I haven't messed with anything past a CCO but does anyone feel that any of the attachements give any real advantage? The CCO I used had definate cool factor but I didn't see a tremendous advantage. It was pretty easy to zero and fire with though. Everything else seems to just add weight and possible screw up the balance. Now I did try to attach the AN/PEQ 2?? but it was not exactly snap on. You have to install the damn thing and I decided I wasn't going to get into armorer level modifications. The only thing I liked was the flashlight attachement. I went up against OPFOR that had limited NVG use and the flashlight in MOUT was great. We would approach the building with NODS down and when we got to the door went NODS up and then kicked the door in with flashlights blazing. NODS or not the OPFOR was screwed. The half second they needed to blink was more than enough time to get shot. But, a flashlight simply snaps on when you need it and snaps off when you don't. I can't much see the need to trick out an assault rifle much. If you can simply pull some optics or kit out of your buttpack and slap it on when you need it without having to screw, ratchet, assemble and then zero.. then I could see a use for it. I'm not saying that optics, lazer range finders and IR markers aren't needed. Those tools are good for customizing your weapon to missions.. but need to be a bit more plug n play. I mean if the SCAR has a damn quick change barrel then there should be a better rail system for the kit junkies.

Another homegrown rifle with cool factor. The SOCOM II. Basically an M1 by Springfield on Roids.
Not a good fit to replace the M16 series but a good addition for a sharpshooter or sniper team. 7.62 Nato, 20 round mag, 11 lbs and enough rail to attach all your kit and an your iPod.

X2Best weapon I ever had. I fired an M-16 and I hated it. Too light and too many small parts. I stuck with the M-14 whenever I was on watch outside. Inside the ship I chose a shotgun. The M-14 never failed, never jammed, easy to clean, and accurate.

While I have never fired, handled, or even SEEN one of these, I'm a big fan of the caliber.
Then you would be the first one to bitch about the added weight of the bigger ammunition loadout. An m4 fully equipted is half the weight of a weapon that supports 7.62. And even adds accuracy with the round for 5.56. sure the 7.62 round is fair at accuracy. But weight is worth a million bucks on the battlefield.

Hah.. funny stuff.
Just posted it because of the cool factor. I dig the config and the weight of it but I am not fond of the balance. I didn't get to fire it of course but being a heavy barrel peeked my interest. I like the idea of being able to add the attachements you are used to so that you have the ability to be effective as an assault weapon for near targets and still be able to cover your platoon as part of a sniper team.
Still, no idea of the actual performance. Just liked the "idea" and look of the set up.
