Most of the NVA´s equipment was sold (almost for free) to other countries
when Germany re-united. Finland was one of those countrie that got the
largest deliveries of ex-NVA equipment. I´m not sure about the numbers, but
they are something like this:

http://hkkk.fi/~yrjola/war/finland/armor/t72talvi.jpg
T-72M1, of which about 80 were bought

http://www2.mil.fi/maavoimat/joukot/tykpr/122_h_63a.jpg
Hundreds of D-30 (400+)

http://www2.mil.fi/maavoimat/joukot/tykpr/152_h_55.jpg
A large bunch of 152 mm howitzers

http://www2.mil.fi/maavoimat/joukot/tykpr/122_rakh_89.jpg
Hm, 70 or so MRL´s

+ 100 BMP-1P´s, 100.000 "Kalashnikovs", PKM´s etc etc.

Wicked sideburns the first guys' got...

Personally I'm a huge fan of the DDR, I've got one of them Strichtarn-camouflaged BDU's and the UTV-harness system on my collection.

But, to the topic of Finnish weapons bought from the DDR:

http://img15.photobucket.com/albums/v46/Dalleer/RKK.jpg

Here's a Finnish Major-General showing the press some of the "cheap assault rifles" that we bought from the east-Germans.

The picture is not that good, but it reads "7,62 mm assault rifle 58" on one of the labels there.

http://img15.photobucket.com/albums/v46/Dalleer/T72.jpg

And here's another shot of the Finnish T72M1.

Wtf, 58? On which one is that, the underfolder? I´m under the impression
that the Finns designate their "AK-47´s" as 7.62 RK 54, and not 58? As here:

Interesting, the photo of the General, the first one is a PRC Type-56-2.
The other an AKS-47 and the next AKM. (they don't appear to be DDR versions!?)
Maybe the second(?) if it is DDR made, it would be an MpikS.

The 152mm howitzer is the D-20!

The 122mm MRL is a Czech RM-70! Greece also got these along
with BMP-1's.

The Rk 54 (that came with the T-72) is Russian. It is a 3rd model AK-47! Plus, look at the lower hand guard, it is an AKM/AKMS lower handguard!
It has the "bulge" on each side to provide better grip.

I am surprised Finland would have DDR, PRC and old USSR small arms in its inventory. Since they have Valmet or is it SAKO?

Both. I believe they fusioned some years ago. They are known under the name SAKO now. I see on they webpage that they are a part of Beretta now.

You'd better believe it, the white paper on the stand in that picture says "7,62 mm Rynnäkkökivääri 58"

Maybe the people who took the photo messed up real bad, or then there's indeed a "RK 58" out there...

Btw, it seems that what the picture designates as a "RK 58" is the one with the foldable stock.

Appears on the picture as the "AK" in the middle.

Together with the Navys coastal brigade Finland have 21 brigades, all of these
have the Finnish assault rifles, in the early 90´s the politicians got an offer
they couldn´t resist, 100.000 assault rifles from DDR (this also included Polish-
made ones), and 100.000 from Norinco. These are mainly intended to be used
by "homeguard batallion", guards etc. However it seems that both the Polish
and East-German ones are in limited use also in the brigades, mainly with the
crews of BMP-1 (because it´s possible to fire from inside the vehicle with the
firing ports). Some photos:

BMP-1PS crew, note Finnish heated tent in the back, this is carried
inside the vehicle together with a ton of equipment

SA-11 Buk M1 crew (Dalleer, see, no rubber boots!)

Btw I think it´s a T-55M (bought from Soviet Union in the 60´s), my mistake.

Hah, those guys were lucky on not being issued rubber boots...

And it's a T-55M indeed, or as the full name goes "T55MS" (S for Suomi)

Kay-dos!

Sweet, Mustamato

The T-55 crew are holding DDR MpikMS-72 (AKMS) rifles! But, with RK95 magazines! Neat!
Plus they have Rk 95 type Blank Firing Attachments, not DDR ones! That is different!

* Look close at the photo, the MpikMS-72 on the right is a 1970's model. (Lower unlaminated, wooden, handguard!) While the one on the left is a 1980's model with the synthetic fiber handguard! Cool! The Finns got all types! Good purchase!

Mustamato, the Finns got 100,000 DDR gewhres! WOW! Post an photos you have of the East German gewhres in Finnish hands!
Did the Finns get the DDR MpiAK-74N or MpiAKS-74N (5.45x39mm) included with those 100,000?

:D Keep posting more Finnish Army photos! It is hard to find that in the USA!

As for the DDR NVA post those photos too! (it has been history for 13 years!)
