Wow. There's your topic, disguss amongst yourselves.
This is a little more than your typical tax write-off.

I think its sad that high schools and libraries are the recipients of charity.

no. it's sort of like when my school, and probably hundreds or thousands of others had to gather things like goggles for the troops right before OIF. why should they be in that kind of position?

Surplus wealth is a sacred trust which its possessor is bound to administer in his lifetime for the good of the community.

It will be interesting to see how the combined charitable wealth of Gates/Buffett is utilized.
The combined figures are a staggering sum as both are on record planning to dispose of nearly their entire wealth via charitable donations.
I for one am hoping they use quantifiable measurements, as they have done in their respective businesses, to fund worthwhile causes.
Simply giving money rarely solves anything.
Giving money to organizations that achieve outstanding returns on invested funds is the way to go in my opinion.

That pic also shows what Bill's motivation for influencing Microsoft to develop the screen saver. It wasnt to somehow "save" screens from burn in because of the static GUI elements. No. It was so he could have, well... What you see in that promotional photo there.
