I'm pretty sure we've almost flogged the music topic to death but this is a chance for you all to champion the band that nobody else has heard of.

My choice is a British group called Zero 7. Although I'm a confirmed rock/metal/blues fan I love this band which is best described as music to chill out to (Or if you want it in slightly more earthy terms "Music that was made for shagging to"). The following is a link to their first album on amazon.com and has a section that allows you to listen to some of their stuff Click here (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005R5M6/ref=j_dp_bbx_1/103-0067908-1896676?v=glance&st=*)
They released their second album in the UK last month and in my opinion it's as good as the first which led to me seeing them live last night - in a word they were fantastic.

OK, let's hear it from you, what small, unheard of bands do you like? And if possible, put a link in to one of their songs, also, by all means feel free to tell me your opinion of the Zero 7 stuff you've (Hopefully) just listened to, but if you don't like it I'll probably just ignore you. :D

Once I saw this band from Ireland that no one had heard of. They opened for the J Geils Band. They were called U2.

I don't listen to enough new music these days to have a real opinion on an undiscovered band. Although mocking is pretty damned good.

1. Rantanplan: Its a north german Ska Punk Band with a realy cool tune. Sometimes slow ska sometimes heavy Punk. They are so cool that I decided to take their name as my nickname. (Try to download them at Kazaa and judge yourself )

2. The Hotknives: british Ska rules.

3. Save Ferris: I don't know how famous they are in the US but in germany nobody ever heard of them. I bought a CD of then at a flea market for 50 cent and was amazed about their finger snaping ska-punk-pop.

Hello all. I'm here to champion the greatest red-blooded American heavy metal band in existence today: Iced Earth woot . These guys are true patriots, the lead songwriter/guitarist is good friends with a bunch of Navy SEALs who he met when the team went to a concert in Norfolk for them and their captain told him they blast Iced Earth's music when they train on their obstacle course. :D They even have a song called Greenface on their newest cd called dedicated to his friend who was wounded in Operation Anaconda.

Also they have a very moving tribute to 9/11 called When the Eagle Cries. You see the video here: http://launch.yahoo.com/musicvideos/lists/byalpha.asp?l=I&p=1
It's realy tastefully done, but supposedly MTV banned it from their station because they don't think kids want to be reminded of that day any more. They basically told the band get with the program, our audience doesn't want to see this stuff. So now they've been gathering up the support from bunch of veterans and current troops who have seen the video and love it.

So there yah go Iced Earth, the greatest band nobody's heard of.
(buy their new cd here p-) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000YTOXA/qid=1080099573/sr=8-1/ref=pd_ka_1/104-2254400-4251168?v=glance&s=music&n=507846)

The Saw Doctors: don't know how popular they are in Europe, but virtually no one's heard of them in the US. Pretty sweet Irish rock band (not like Dropkick Murphys or Flogging Molly).

There's a lot of cool bands out there, but one of the greatest I'm listening to at the minute is GS Megaphone. They're a wicked rock band. I also agree totally with the way they approach the whole piracy/music sharing deal. If you enjoy rock of any type, check 'em out. (http://www.gsmegaphone.com)

Another band many may not have heard of is Skillet. They're a bit different style from GS Megaphone, but they still rock pretty hard. They're website is here. (http://www.skillet.org)

Both websites have samples (or even entire songs) of music. Have a listen, you might like 'em. :D

MetalBoy: That video was very well-done, man. I'm gonna have to pick up their album.

Fox2: gotta say, GS Megaphone's pretty damn good. How do the secret codes work though? Do you just enter them as a search in Kazaa and it'll find some of their music or something?

In the lower left of their website, there's a text field. You enter the codes into that, and it'll give you "extras." It's just a nice gimmick on their main page to access more information. For instance, enter Lyrics = Dream and you get the lyrics to the song that first plays when you enter the site. I really like the way they did the layout and interactivity. It's pretty neat.

I like they're stance on the whole piracy/download stuff, as well. Instead of being hard-liners and coming out against it, they actually GIVE you some songs and videos right there. Infact, it is that stance that made me want to buy their CDs even more.

Alot of new artists seem to be doing that now... I think it's good... makes you want to support them cause they are keeping up with technology and realize that people can get their songs if they really want them.

Totally I agree.

I download things I cannot get on Cd like live techno sets from clubs and what not. I also download songs off of peoples new albums to see if its actually worth putting out the cash for it. So often I drop $20 bucks for a Cd that has one good song?

Come on....make it worth buying and I will buy it :P

Thats the same stance I have with DVD's, video games and computer software.

That was quite nice. Was a bit skeptical about the whole nice acoustic guitar stuff in the intro but those hard riffs were totally kick-ass. I enjoyed it a lot although I usually really don't like the whole post-grunge (or what you call it) scene. The US seem to spit out bands like these in an never-ending pace at the moment and I think a lot of those bands lack soul...

Rantanplan:

You should check out a swedish band called Monster. They did a great album called "Rockers delight". Very good Ska-punk in my opinion...

Monster Magnet are a great acid rock band, totally mental Hendrix/Led Zep style cross-over.

Also, ever heard of the Screaming Trees, they rocked in the mid-late 90's, saw them supporting Alice in Chains, and loved them ever since. Mark Lannegan, they're lead singer is now in another band, altho can't remember the name.

Other lesser know bands I dig are;
The Warlocks
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (BMRC)
and a whole bunch of others...

Also a pretty good group that may be lesser known:

Machinae Supremacy (http://www.machinaesupremacy.com)

Swedish alternative rock/techno/something. Pretty trippy, but fun to listen to.

Yeah, I love Air, "Moon Safari" was a work of genius...

I'm another one who likes BRMC, I thought "Take them on, on your own" was pretty good.

ANybody here heard of the Cooper Temple Clause? I bought their album on the strength of "Promises promises" which I love but I've never really gotten around to listening to the whole album for some reason.

I've got their second album (vinyl) from back in the late 80s. I bought it for the song 'Bored'. Haven't heard any of their stuff since though. :D

How about 'Local H' anyone heard of them? I kinda like their stuff.

Don't they have a new album coming out this year? I have their first album, It's funny that they were like 15 years old when they released it. The Ultra Violence is an awesome thrash song.
