How do I go about making an SL8 look like a G36? Yes, I know it is illegal to own a real G36. I just want something that looks like one that can handle high-cap magazines.

From what I understand there have been qiite a few mods done to the SL8 to make them take AR15 mags and get the G36 look....I havnt looked into it in a long time but know it can be done..

There is a group on Yahoo called Weapons..Its a yahoo group..There is a guy there named Morgan..Go there and ask and those nut balls..They will surely know if you cant find the answer here..

who say G36 is illegal??
as long as it only has semi function, it will be fine.

For those that lives on the south side of the border, but then again, I rather have a SL8 converted to G36 then a G36 that cna only have a pinned 5 round magazine... :)

This is the process...

I went through it a while back and it was very extensive.

First I dumped the original SL8 lower and bought a Special Weapons lower with foldig stock. I added a G36C stock pad to reduce the long stock pull because SW's customer requested for a folding stock and to be able to fold a stock on a SL8 package, you need to lengthen the lower to accommandate the folding mech. so someone else found a way to chop the Original SL8 and fuse a G36 stock to it to make it a non-folder but very close to the real thing in look and length of pull.

Next thing is to dye the receiver, I took a big jug and fill it with boiling hot water, then I added Rit-Dye to the jug, a total of 3 b ottles of Rit-Dye. then I soak the receiver in the jug and went to dinner. when I return, I dump out half of the jug and added more hot waer and one or two bottles of rit-dye. let it soak a bit more and dump out the jug and blow dry the receiver and roil the steel parts. of course you can dump a strippped receiver, that would be the best. I did it with my barrel still installed.

The barrel was the next step.. I send it to AREA51 guns in Vegas, Larry Reimer was the guy that turn down my SL8 barrel to the excat spec as the G36 CQB barrel profile. 15 inches with a std G3 flash hider pinned on.

Final step was to convert the Mag well to accept the AR mag converion made by special eapons.

Once the Assault weapns ban passed, I added the original G36 mag well.

Of course..Being SMGLee, I mod the SL36 with enough after market parts to look like I actually know what i am doing... ;)

This is the aftermath...

It is kind of sad that i can't find the KAC 600M Rear Sight with Long Rail.
so i choose the one with medium Rail...

A mate of mine has changed his SL8 over to a G36, quite a sweet shooter.
I know that they advertise the conversion kits in shotgun news but they are a pretty penny, well worth it though.

If you are not afraid of german language, you may want to check out http://www.sl-8.de/ At least you can look at the pictures there. They list, for example, a SL8 lower group with folding stock in the G36 style, which comes, according to them, from the states: http://www.sl-8.de/Stock/stock.html

There are also 30 round SL8 magazines, which are expensive as hell.

How much does the SL8 cost, in addition to all the after market parts?

$1300-1600 for an SL8, I believe the parts can be had for around $2k

I`m from Germany and I`ll be studying at Washington D.C. starting August.
I have an SL8 right here but I just don`t like the "demilitarized"/civilian stock it features. Though mine is already the black version I want to get rid of the ugly civilian stock and get me a compatible folding stock.
I know that SL-8.de is offering some, I wanted to buy it in the US so that`ll save me some buck.
Also looking for other parts to do some upgrades on my SL-8 and my Sabre Defence XR-15 compact.

Got a little confused about all the different dealers around, maybe you guys can tell me where to spend my dollars on specific gun parts, such as the folding stock or front/rear sight?

Thanks in advance!

hey guys, i just signed up pretty much to ask this question. directed at SMGlee .. the example of the SL8 that you posted.
the rail you have on there with the flip up sights. what is it ? and where do i get one ? front and rear parts
im from new zealand so i'll more than likely have to get it out of the US . any parts here are few and far between and our laws are pretty stringent so in most cases parts are harder to get than the rifles themselves

Not the same type of conversion but when you can run AR mags who will complain? :)

Edit: Was I really that fat a year ago?
