Belgian police find body of one of missing girls
(Filed: 28/06/2006)

Belgian police have found the body of one of two girls who went missing earlier this month, the lawyer for the family has said.

Stacy, right, and Nathalie have been missing for weeks

The lawyer, Philippe Moureau, said today on the local RTBF television station that the body was that of Stacy Lemmens, seven, who was playing with her step-sister Nathalie Mahy, 10, when the girls were abducted (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/06/18/wkidnap18.xml).

Another television station, RTL, suggested that a second body could have been found nearby.

The girls went missing while playing outside a cafe in Liège at 2am on June 10 while their parents were drinking inside.

Pascale Goossens, a magistrate, told the Belga news agency that Stacy's body was found near railway tracks a few hundred metres from where the girls disappeared.

He said the date of the girl's death could not be established without an autopsy but it appeared she had not been killed recently.

Abdallah Ait Oud, a convicted paedophile and serial child rapist, has been charged with kidnapping the girls.

He has admitted being at the pub in Liège but denies any involvement.
The case has revived memories of the crimes of paedophile Marc Dutroux in the 1990s.

We were on the subject of Belgium?

But yeah, horrible news. I just heard on the news that they've found and identified both bodies now. Freaking aweful. I hope the guy they've got is actually found guilty or that they catch whoever did do it. Got to say though, it looked like the police didnt spare any cost or effort in trying to find them. Looks like we've learnt something from the Dutroux affair.

I want to agree with you but these people are insane, therefore not everytime aware of their crimes.

Absolute rubbish, Zarathustra! You have now made an excuse to allow more of the same crimes to take place. How can someone be insane when they commit murder, but then be perfectly sane when locked-up or on trial? Nonsense!
This here is an unfortunate example of what a society reaps, when it does not make the right choice the first time.

Let me say again, you don't get any credit for allowing murderer's to go free. Nor are you some how "better" because of such a stance. You and others may sleep well at night, although the family who lost their child, sure as hell is not!
