Stacy, right, and Nathalie have been missing for weeks
The lawyer, Philippe Moureau, said today on the local RTBF television station that the body was that of Stacy Lemmens, seven, who was playing with her step-sister Nathalie Mahy, 10, when the girls were abducted (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/06/18/wkidnap18.xml).
Another television station, RTL, suggested that a second body could have been found nearby.
The girls went missing while playing outside a cafe in Liège at 2am on June 10 while their parents were drinking inside.
Pascale Goossens, a magistrate, told the Belga news agency that Stacy's body was found near railway tracks a few hundred metres from where the girls disappeared.
He said the date of the girl's death could not be established without an autopsy but it appeared she had not been killed recently.
Abdallah Ait Oud, a convicted paedophile and serial child rapist, has been charged with kidnapping the girls.
He has admitted being at the pub in Liège but denies any involvement.
The case has revived memories of the crimes of paedophile Marc Dutroux in the 1990s.
