i am too young to remember these events in our history, but if you search this forum there is similar topic with exact czechoslovak civilian casualties...
use keywords like 1968, Prague Spring, Czechoslovakia etc....
btw: On the 3rd picture with a man shredding his shirt in front of russian tank, there is a university where i was studying - in Bratislava, capitol of Slovak republic. On the stairs in front of the university there was a young girl shot and killed by the russians. This picture is one of the most famous photographs in our history. Couple of years ago this picture was placed on a building near the university, it was quite big and impressive to see a events happening on this peacufull place decades ago.
RIP to all who were killed...

Awesome pictures! So am I right in thinking that some elements, albeit a small fraction, of the Czech army did resist?

AFAIK there was no resistance from czechoslovak army... it will lead to bloodshed similar to russian intervention to Hungary in 1956. Although there are rumors that some elite forces were planning a covert operation to liberate our pro-democratic leaders held by the russians.
The only resistance was peacefull civilian opposition.

Unfortunetly you re wrong.
Czech paratroopers (7th airborne regiment) had orders to rescue Alexander Dubcek and prepare for guerilla war...they builed some small fortifications but later they had to return peacefully to their barracks.:|
Heres a link to the source but its only in czech language, i haven t time to translation...

eeh, same pictures. How many times am I going to have to hear this story. Russian are a crafty bunch. But you had it the lightest out of all communist countries. not to mention you actually elected the commies into office, and it was your officials who backed the soviet incursion, mostly ukrainian troops along with poles. Sad events, but seriously, you still complain about the germans destroying the parliment building in old town square and yet you expelled 3 million germans after the war, I think one outweighs the other. Did you ever apoligize to the germans? cause I dont think they have a right to return to their property.

Thats your opinion. I agree with you at some points but really not all...
Apologize to germans? Yeah, it was cruell but Germany had lost war. They had to pay for the crimes of nazism. You are american, you can t probably never understand all this. Oh..and pls dont take this as offence.

I am an American Citizin. I was born in Riga, USSR to Ukrainian parents. I just finished Spring semester at Charles University in Prague. In neither Latvia or Ukraine people bring up what Russian controled Soviet troops did to the population of those countries, not to mention Czechs actualy harbor hate towards Russians after all these years.

All Im saying, in an arrogant fashion, is that you need to stop posting the same exact pics about prague spring, I have seen them on the threads, and read forums where they are discussed plenty times already. Bla Bla Bla Danik now insults zkurvenepice's knowledge in exact same manner bla bla bla.
You can chill and eat some zmirzlina z fantazie.

Like I had to explain to many ppl across Europe, if you can imagine that EU was one country and how greatly the girls varied from place to place, then you can imagine that various regions in US have different lookin girls. In NYC though there are few "American" girls. But non the less theres hot girls all over, including Czech ones, that hang out in the czech restaurants like Zlata Praha, and in night clubs near by. Other wise hop on the latino band wagon and enjoy all the phat booty.:):):):):):)

No waring, you can stand down. Im saying that the events are still in the back of the minds of the ppl, and arent the least bit forgotten, which is not a bad thing, but when people start giving you attitude or pretend they dont undersand Russian then it goes a bit far. For your info I took czech politics, czech history, czech film, and economics. I met with Czech secretary to the EU, as well as visited the presidents office and spoke with a senator. And my Czech politics teacher just happened to be son of famous dissidents, and had hookups with, all these politicians, he really loved to bring up Prague spring, communists were referred to as bastards.

OK, I am agree with you about some things and want to show the president Havelīs victory symbol:) (bwt the Czechlands havenīt president from Havelīs resignation for me:) ) but,I have graduated Charles University and I am hounored to meet dissident politicians and today politicians(not honoured for example man of name, ohhh God the most stupid man ....hmmmm..... I have remembered - Venca Klaus) as well for my graduated work about Warsaw pact and russian army resettlement...So I am agree, the bolshevics are the bastards, but what you talking about bolshevics in czech politics now? these mother****....s got much less votes in whole the Czechlands history (that means over 10 centuries history of the Czech state), still I donīt understand what you wrote by your letters in this thread.... yes, I know, my English is wery bad.....

Your write your English is not premium, Im not sure what you mean why I wrote them, as in they are offensive?
"I have graduated Charles University and I am hounored to meet dissident politicians"
Then perhaps you know Petr Roubal, Proff at Charles U. He seems to harbor same displeasure with Klaus.

Danik: you dont understand the basic facts and resaons why are Czechs and Slovaks so sensitive to russians (soviets) and why we dont like them very much...
You cant compare it to WW2 - because the nazis were considered by Czechoslovaks as a danger even before Munich 1983. When they come - they come as enemies! But the Red army was considered to be a FRIEND, a liberator... and these FRIENDS come decades later as the occupants. If a friend betrays you, it is much more worst... thats the reason why we dont like them very much... So please think twice before post. It is not just hate. In tn the first place it is a BETRAYAL - then maybe hate.
Not talking about modern russians (or ex-soviets) - many of them are illegal immigrants, illegal workers - and also criminals commiting some of the worst crimes.

Alright, I get your point. The Soviets liberated alot of places, and then came back to fcuk them later. What I am sayin is that, even in Ukraine a place that is practically bound to Russia, a quarter of its population was killed. They do not discuss it, or harbor animosity for the Russians based on what the soviet government did to them. Its fine to teach that history because it is what happened, but to the point where people have animosity for Russians is a bit much.
Or Im wrong and the reason you dont like Russians is the ones you have living there today, along with all the Russian tourists. It seems most Russian expats all over the world act the same way no matter where they live, like assholes.

A lot of czechs are hyper senstitive drama queens, and Czech girls have no ass. That is all I learned during studying abroad in Prague. O and Czech vodka should be illegal.
