Deutscher - do you have any details (photos) showing the rail that fixes Holosight to G36 carring handle?
It seems that original HK "double sight" is being replaced by KSK with favor to use carring handle in "E" style (single optics) and Holosight HWS (seems like Eotech one to me) combination. Guess Holosight is better for CQB - it has much wider field of wiev than original RD "upper" G36 sight. Generally spec ops G36 now includes much more of picatinny rails form what I've seen... Got more "weapon oriented" photos of KSK, GSG9, SEK or Kampfschwimmers?

i dont know exactly what you mean, but you can click under this link on "g36"
their you can see the different versions of the weapon and there are many different. i think they ksk are using the versions, which are the best for their different operations.

The KSK is not using the C nor do they use G36 with E-Type handles, from what I've seen so far.
What you see throughout common image material are standard G36K and G36K with exchanged carrying handles (closely resembling the C-Type ones).

:backhand:
Look at the pic and you'll see what I mean. Guys holding G36K with Camocoat applied fitted with front grip, bipod, C-mag. Carrying handle is biger one as in normal G36 - not flat rail as it is in C variant. On top of this handle theres HWS mounted - where normally the HK RedDot sight is (you can see that standard version in other photos up tha page) it also seems that standard single optical scope is on its usual place like in E version (but E version got only x1,5 if I remember) - but I wonder if its still 3x Zeiss scope as issued to Bundeswehr?
BTW. I never suggested that they got G36C so why are you mentioning it?

but the picture material available so far and ongoing discussions in other forums lead to the conclusion that we never saw them using G36C (yet).

Let me rephrase it then, as I'm no native English speaker ;):
There is no evidence nor any proof that KSK is using G36C or E. All evidence that we have (e.g. picture material) seems to show, according to general opinion, G36K and G36K with exchanged carrying handles.
<= That's what my original sentence was supposed to say.
@Catch22: I was mostly posting because the link posted by "deutschersoldat" was irritating me. ;)
You're right about that handle resembling the E-Type. Well... I'm not so sure about that E-Type story now. However, they must have modified it for the EOTech to fit, I think.
Edit: Just found out that there is an "A2" version of the G36K which has a weaver rail where the original reflex sight was. So it is possible, that the KSK was issued that version first. Just one of many possibilities.

Yes, you´re wrong. KSK stands for "Kommando Spezial Kräfte". KS stand´s for "Kampfschwimmer". They are 2 different Units and there was not changing.
@TheJedi
The KS are not part of the DSO! The DSO is a Army Divison without any Navy elements! The KS now belongs to the BSEK M, which stands for "Bataillon Spezialisierte Einsatzkräfte Marine". This Bn now contains the KS Co, the Mine Clearance Diver Co and the remaining parts of the Naval Security Forces.

The MILAN team is positively NOT KSK.
It's a French army unit; it's obvious from their F1 helmet with synthetic camouflage, F1 day pack, the aerial from the TRPP11 radio set slung around the neck and the olive green uniforms.

It's correct, Kampfschwimmer and Kommando Spezialkräfte are two different units, always have been (that KSK would stand for "Kampfschwimmer Kompanie is a misinformation). Actually the Kampfschwimmer have been founded well before KSK and are a very tough elite unit (motto: "Lerne leiden ohne zu klagen"/"Learn to suffer without lament") which is quite small, there are only 30 to 40 of them with "Combat Ready" Status at any given time. They are in the process of being restructured by the way, and will be part of the so called SEK-M (Sondereinsatzkommando - Marine...we Germans know how to make things short and snappy  ) in the near future.

The KS are even less than 40; they are about 25 combat-ready members at the moment.
As far as the KSK is concerned, it's not doing too well at the moment; they have difficulties recruiting, there has been reports in German papers that they wanted a pay rise because they are often away from home and subjected to strenuous training and their moral is not exactly sky-high right now.
Not talking about the equipment (not the cheap stuff like sexed up G36); no specific, modern helos (HH60 or Cougar Mk2 types), problems with their Ram air parachutes, low aircraft availability to jump...

Apparently, the German Navy should re-create a Naval Infantry of some sort after having disbanded its previous such units only a few years ago.
Not for amphibious assault, more to keep ships safe during port calls while on deployments and also to do shore patrols. The overall unit should be around battalion strength.
The German Navy also hopes to get its first amphibious vessel by around 2010; if the defence budget in Germany keeps on being cut like it is know, it is doubtful they'll get it.
BTW, RAIDS did an excellent article about the German Kampf schwimmer about ten years ago with many never released before pics...

As far as choopers are concerned, they will get the NH 90 soon, that will rectify that problem.
As far as the rest is concerned, its the same problem the SAS (and other units of this type) are facing right now...recruiting is a problem cause some decide to leave KSK and to join some of the now forming mercenary outfits (or security companies, whatever you call them). The pay is better! And replacing them is not easy, because standards are very high, indeed. KSK was planned to have a strength of 1000, but it will not reach that in the near future.
But I think thats better than going down with quality requirements.
Equipment is top notch, truly. They are the only part of Bundeswehr, that gets what they want. Especially their "shooting ranges" (computerized, videoscreened, equipped to train any situation from one on one to full scale storming attacks, are awesome). But pay is another matter...its not that different from typical military pay, and thats not overly generous.

About KSK Motivation:
There was a interview in the german magazine SPIEGEL with a KSK Soldier.
KSK did many recon down in Afghanistan but as soon as there was a possible "high value" target that the KSK Operators spotted they had of course to radio it to the HQ and as soon as possible the American SF`s came and said "thx KSK - its our job now".
There was big motivation knockdown because the American wanted to catch "big fishes" for themselfes. Just imagine KSK or any other SFs which are not from USA would catch bin Laden - THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE ! ;)
Greetings

That confirms what I was told by a friend who was in Afghanistan; as soon as a contact was expected in an area where Germans or Danes were operating, they were moved to another area and replaced by US troops.
That could also be "national restrictions" agreed on secretly between governments.
That also applied to the Danish F-16s that were providing CAS there.
