Two persons were injured Thursday when four people wearing police uniforms stopped a van belonging to the local Privredna Bank, attacked the security guards in the vehicle and stole more than 2 million euro (2,5 million US dollar), police confirmed.
Four people disguised as policemen stopped the van with four security guards and a bank clerk inside, according to Sarajevo police Spokesman Jusuf Zornic. It was transporting more than 2 million euro from the city's centre to the airport.
As soon as the bank van stopped, Zornic said, the robbers opened fire, took control over the vehicle and captured the guards and the clerk.
The vehicle was found later Thursday in an eastern suburb of the city, some 3 kilometres south-east of the spot where the attack occurred. The five captured people were found near the vehicle with their hands tied.
Zornic said the police began a thorough search and urged the citizens to call the police if they had any information that could help in solving the case.
He also said that contrary to regular procedures Privredna Bank did not inform the police about transport of a huge amount of money.
