The final chapter of the roller-locking HKs: They are phased out in favour of the polymer guns (UMP and G36). That probably means there's going to be new versions of the UMP to replace the MP5k and MP5SDs.
So sad for the MP5: the king is being carried to his grave.

Wow, MP5 becoming a relic? Didn't think I'd see that anytime soon....

Im sure their will be knock offs and copies for years to come. How long ago did the Ak-47 production stop in the USSR? And yet to this day you can buy brand new freshly manufactored copies pretty much anywhere in the world.

As far as I heard does HK germany close down the civilian lines of MP5 in Germany and no export to France, Austria and CH. Because Brügger & Thomet is making also the MP5 under license there is no need for HK Germany to produce MP5 for the resting small civilian market. Negative point about the BT96 (the MP5 from B&T) is the price. Quality is equal, but the price is horrible... Doesn't bother me because I already go what I need, but it's sad for the future generations of gun collectors, because the MP5 is a classic and is already hard to get now.

Maybe the swiss will buy the machines which could lead to a price drop..
Rest in peace MP5. You won´t be forgotten

POF - Pakistani Ordnance Factories manufacture MP5's. Might be the same guys as Patriot Ordnance Factories in Arizona. ;) They also produce G3/HK91 stuff if I'm right.
And B&T as Icarus1 stated.

Sure, the MP-5 and it's various models were the pinnacle of their field in their day, and still are great firearms. However, it's time to move on to newer and better things. If you are standing still, you are getting passed.
Even though the market may be getting smaller for H&K in the favor of short carbines in rifle cartridges, the demand is still there. We can only hope that the UMP will prove to be just as great in its day as the MP-5 was.

i think the mp5 has enough affect on the world that it will become like the AKM's and M1 garands etc. They'll keep makin replicas or knockoffs which might cost more but w/e because you can still own one

Isn't this old news? I thought HK shut these production lines down a while ago to focus on the G36 and UMP series?

B&T isn't "making" them, they just assemble parts which they buy from Pakistan (or Turkey??). And since Pakistan (or Turkey?) stopped producing them B&T will eventually run out of parts.
The price for a BT96 (semiauto MP5-clone) has already risen to 3600.- Sfr which is an absolutely ridicilous price.

Having shot both I can honestly say the UMP (45 in this case) is NOT an MP5.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed shooting the UMP, but the MP5 is just...better...
Having said that, the UMP is easier to produce and if its the only choice, people will buy the UMP.

Okay.
I've posted this on HKPro.com and he (HKPro) said this article is is probably BS (although from Jane's) and pointed out it was full of technical errors. He also said the MP5 will be continued as long as there are enough orders and could very well last for another 15 years. HK33/53 are indeed being phased out but that is old news anyway (HK33 has not been on the HK page for several years now/Hk53 has disappeared from the German site aswell).
I have been sourcing this article.
Not only is it terribly written, there are numerous small arms technical errors in it, and I am very surprised that Jane's editors did not catch them. This is VERY substandard for Jane's. Quite unusual.
Andrew White seems to not know his small arms. C-Mag MP5 variant? UMP manufactured in 9mm and .45? Uhhhh .40 S&W? UMP includes a retractable butt? They come standard with a Surefire M900? And the GUN is adaptable to the B&T suppressor? Huh? What?
You know what subscriptions cost for Jane's information?
But, the short version is, the MP5 is not NEAR ending production.
I know I don't speak for the whole world, but this is pretty much where the whole world goes when they want to see what's really happening with HK.
Repeat: The MP5 IS NOT NEARING THE END OF PRODUCTION. AS LONG AS THE ORDERS CONTINUE, THEY WILL CONTINUE TO MANUFACTURE IT.
ARE WE CLEAR?
I got estimates as far as 15 years out.
You heard it here. I hear rumors ALL THE TIME, that the MP5 line is or was now out of production.
NOT TRUE.
HK53 and 33? Yes, but we've known that for a long time.

I rather get a UMP anyways, .45acp rounds. :)

yea, i had wondered about some of that article ( mainly the retractable butt because it's like the G36's folding stock.)
I could understand the Mp5 being shut down if the UMP's werent selling but if i had the cash and the opportunity i'd buy both.
also, I believe it says in the article that the Mp5 still had a good 7-10 yrs so it wasnt immediate.

I was fortunate enough to get my hands on an MP5 whilst in the US & it jut plain fitted right. The Eotech that it had mounted made one Hell of a combination for fast & accurate shots.
Call me an old fart but I prefer a weapon with more "meat" than modern stuff, which is probably why I'm infatuated with the FAL;-)

yea, the FAL is a bad MF!!!

but it isn't that great a MF if it's all you got and you have to do a VBSS..
CQB is where the MP5 variants shine..that and the closed bolt=accuracy..headshots at 20meters..
I haven't tried the UMP yet.
I didn't like the feel/fit up of the FAL..I did like the AR10 in .300RSUM..and the M14..just boils down to preference.
