Just recently I was walking past a little creek and suddenly out of nowhere a freaking heron almost crashed into me.

It was indeed so close I could have catched it, but I didn't.

And the other time when I was trying to sleep there was suddenly a huge flash and then I saw this meteor in the sky with a red swiff.

I was literally lying there and waiting that the world explodes into thousand pieces.

i have recurring dreams of me trying to protect someone that i love very much, but failing to do so. the killer always has a large blade, something like a machete. our limbs are severed one by one and he makes sure i see everyone else die while i'm suffering, too.

I am telling you of one of my dream which really freaked me out, and I woke up.

I was standing on a bridge with a child, this bridge was very very small and had no railings. Suddenly a convoy of Japanese Army Trucks (Don't ask) came, and drove over this bridge leaving me and the child very small space.

So I suddenly fell over into the water... I was swimming, and one of the trucks came into the water to rescue me. But before he reached me I was getting underwater and a huge swimming lizard attacked me and a commentary said "His last chance is one shot out of his harpoon.", I got the harpoon out, shot, and missed.
Then this lizard bit me and I woke up.

I get that too. I don't have a fear of heights, but whenever I get close to an edge of a high structure without a rail or anything, I'm afraid I might get blown off by the wind or that I'll lose my balance and fall to my death. Good stuff.

Greek soldier
07-02-2006, 09:00 AM
You want to wake up but you don't do it immediately. Whenever I wanted to wake up I was having some seconds delay. During these seconds I feel, as you said, my body falling off an edge.

Hope you got it. Sorry for my English.

Nah I don't get that.

I usually experience the ''falling'' first thing when I fall asleep, I'll just randomly sit up in the middle of the night after what has just felt like a sudden push off a cliff, pretty good felling too... p-)

And it's the soul that falls. Weird, eh? As your muscles begin to slack and go into a restful state just as you are falling asleep; your brain senses these relaxation signals and misinterprets them, thinking you are falling down. The brain then sends signals to the muscles in your arms and legs in an attempt to jerk you back upright. It's called hypnagogic myoclonictwitch or "Hypnic jerk".

Makes 100% sence, as it's usually just as I get my head down.

Not aware of what is going on around me. The only thing I feel is the "falling off the edge" process (seconds).

And also not able to move. I struggle, but cannot.

Weird stuff eh?p-)

They're called "Night Terror's" in contrast to "Nightmares"....Often happening in just the first few moments of REM sleep.....Best way to describe it when happening that quickly (as night terrors can come from long drawn out dreams), is imagine you have this dream where you're driving a car about rather fast, possibly afraid, out of control, whatever, and then see you're about to hit a tree and can't stop hitting it......That would be a Nightmare....A Night Terror in the first couple moments of sleep might be you suddenly dream you're in a car and wham, hit a tree at high speed the dream only lasting say seeming 5 seconds.........In the Nightmare you have time to understand it all, and though the result is the same, are prepared for it often just waking up eyes wide..............In the Night Terror you don't, so it's this shocking surprise that cause most folks to lurch up their muscles not fully relaxed yet (deliberatly so you don't hurt yourself in your sleep), scream, jump from the bed, thrash etc.......It's those that "claims" of death have been made for heart victims.

Falling just one of the more common dreams, so in a night terror the physical feelings/sensations would accompany it. When "partially" awake.

I have similar thing athough not with a gun or a knife. It happens only when I have a razor in my hand (you know, that thing people used to shave in the past). I just have a thought "I wonder how sharp it is" and have that urging feeling to try it on my hand. It's scary but also quite pleasant feeling, really strange.

I also had a dream once, that I was shot in the leg from some sort of laser pistol. Pain was so strong I woke up and still felt the pain in the leg I was shot. I couldn't move it for a few seconds.

I have abnormal fears about breaking my teeth, my fingernails being pulled off and losing my eyesight.

I feel your pain, I have the exact same issue. I have nightmares of it on a regular basis, the worst nightmares ever always involve my teeth getting slammed out or them breaking by the slightest contact.

I also often dream of falling down the exact same cliff into the ocean in different situations, normaly I'm chased by a group of people I don't recognize.

The crazy thing is that I "phisically" feel the fall itself, I can't describe the feeling in words, it's like very distinct rush of adrenaline very, very real.
I always wake up before I hit the ground, but I can still feel the adrenaline for minutes after it.
The fall feels so incredible real that I'm a totaly shaken up afterwards, It's always the same procedure.

I can't say it's a real "nightmare", cause it actually feels quite good in a weird, perverted way.

I have a sort of panic dream, I have had it before but a couple of years ago I got really high fever and it came and got stuck on repeat. The dream is basicy me standing in a corner and looking out on a huge space there is nothing as far as the eye can see. Then it goes into a third person and zooms out. Then I can the that the box is shrinking fast and so on. Ends with me being crushed. That is pretty scary when disorientated like I was.
