Well, tonight my friend and I are doing something we should have done everytime we purchased a firearm...took a picture of it and its serial number and any distinguishing marks or modifications.
I am doing this mainly for insurance purposes and anti-theft/liability.
Maybe I should post these in the photos and video section...
Our firearms...
Longarms (bolt action, collectors, shotguns) (three missing currently that I have in storage all pre-1900s shotguns).

Both actually. But you pay for both. The ring is required. The pistol isn't.

whoa... quite a collection, so what state are you living in?
i'm not much of a gun fenatic, but i've gone skeet(?) shooting with a buddy of mine once with a 12-gauge and found it very amusing ^_^
as far as I know living in california makes this sorta hobby all the more less-pleasing... i've heard all sorts of complains about california being anal on gun-ownership... but i'm not all that fluent with those laws...
so outa curiosity, what's the typical process to go about obtaining a firearm? and what state does it pertain to?
Frens
03-26-2004, 05:52 AM
you need a document (there are many kind of documents: for sport, for hunt, for self defense,...) who says you are able to own guns and you must be 18.
Italy is one of the most free country in Europe about guns.

all EU should go with more free gun market. In PL its realy hard to get it ussually Police think that you will become serial killer and start to kill ppl on streets :/ but you dont need any premisions for guns produced before 1850 (don't ask my why this date) and its copies newly made :D you can even have XVII cannon :D

so outa curiosity, what's the typical process to go about obtaining a firearm? and what state does it pertain to?
Purchasing a gun...
1) Buying from an FFL (A licensed gun seller)
You can purchase long arms (rifles and shotguns) in YOUR State and State ADJACENT to it. You can only purchase handguns in YOUR State. You can purchase either through mail order or via the internet through an FFL, BUT you need a FFL in YOUR State to act as the receiver (so in a sense, you are still buying the gun through an FFL in YOUR State).
You are required to fill a form that provides the basic information about yourself. Residence, age, SS#, etc. You also provide information on the form as whether you are (or not) a felon, have a mental illness, have been involved in a non-felony civil dispute such as battery, some other stuff. The form, as far as I know, never changes, and every State FFL has to use it.
The FFL checks everything and then calls it into a Federal office where a background check is done. If they cannot find anything wrong, they have to approve the purchase within 3 days of submitting the intent to purchase check. The Federal government then has to destroy the file. WHile the FFL is required to maintain the paperwork for I belive 30 years.
2) Buying From a U.S. Citizen
Any citizen has the right to buy and/or sell THEIR personal firearms without the need for a license. This has been misslabeled on MANY occassions as the Gun Show Loophole. FFL holders are still require to BY LAW to do business at gun shows the same way they do out of their shops. Anyone can sell a gun though, be it the Army Surplus retailer or your neighbor.
3) Buying automatic weapons, silenced weapons, or short weapons
Requires a Class III FFL. Ant Automatic weapon, whether it be an M16, a P90, or a Mini-gun is classified as a machinegun under Federal law. While it is not illegal to "own" a silcncer, it is illegal to purchase or use unless you have a License to do so. Shotguns can be no shorter than 18" and Rifles can be no shorter than 14.5". Breaking any of these laws is FELONY...go to jail, lose the right to own a gun, lose the right to vote.
This is the bare minimum in purchasing laws...your home State may add additional modifications to these. California has a LOT...no semi-automatic rifles with magazines 10 rounds or larger for instance. Six of my guns, for instance are California legal.
As with all things like this: I AM NOT A LAWYER and you should always do your own research. Never ask a cop always go to your local or State administration. Local is probably better since some gun laws in certain States are NOT the same laws within the cities of those States.

OK Here you have papers that you need to have a gun in poland:
1. Permision tu buy:(you need to finish training, pass exam, prove that you are not mentally and psyhicaly ill, police screening, proof that you need it i.e. that your life is endangered, you are a member of shooting club etc. And it looks like this currently I have 4 of them each for one gun - it is valid 3 months : /I removed my addres and name/
http://www.imageshack.us/img2/4748/Image27.jpg
2. Administrative decision:(Decision that permits you to have a gun in this decision there is stated what kind of gun(s) you can have legally and number of them... and it looks like:
http://www.imageshack.us/img2/5894/Image32.jpg
3.Permision itself!!! and it looks like: /note this is old one new one looks little diferent ,I should have new one in week or two...//

And what laws are in other countrys?:)
Brandon
03-26-2004, 01:59 PM
The laws in Canada arent half bad if you just want to hunt or target shoot with your standard rifle or shotgun. There is 3 classes of firearms that you need to take a seperate exam for.
1) Non-restricted. Primarily hunting rifles and shotguns.
2) Restricted. Primarily handguns. Also includes guns like AR-15's and other semi-auto military type guns. Also includes some rifles under a certain barrel length. ex. M1 Carbine
3)Prohibited. Primarily full-auto guns, and shotguns under 18" barrel.
I've ha my non-rest liscense since I was 18 and love hunting with and shooting milsurp rifles (M1 Garand, Mauser K98 and SKS) The next step for me is my restriced to own AR's and handguns. Its a pain in the ass, but so worth it those nice afternoons on the range.

Hm, stamped receiver on that "AK-47", not Russian?
Nope, not Russian...Romanian, pre-ban with side mount scope bracket. I purchased this rifle for 289.00 USD from an FFL back in 2002. I wanted to get an SAR that I could let anyone shoot and put away "wet" and clean later. I purchased a cheap sight last fall for it with a variable 3-9x with a backlit reticle that works fantastic at dusk.
Not a bad rifle. I get about a 2.4 MOA at 200 yards in a standing position and at 100 yards ****e the thing is just as accurate as my 16" AR15s. The ammo (all Wolf) is cheap at 1000 or 2000 rounds (89.00 to 150.00 USD respectively).
This year I planning on getting an A3 upper post-ban receiver for one of the ARs, with a 24" fluted barrel and free floating foregrip.
My, fingers crossed, additions to the collection this year will be...
• A Beretta 92FS or the new Jericho (with front lower accessory rail)
• A Springfield 1903 (through the CMP)
• A Springfield M1 Grand (Dutch issued DMR barrel) (through CMP)
• A M1 Carbine
• And possibly a lever action Winchester (not too sure what caliber or make yet)
For those of you that think I am rich...well, I am not. It is my hobby, like a boat or jet ski would be. None of the guns with the exception of the ARs are over 700.00 and most of them are under 400.00 (the Benelli Nova was 255.00 used, the Lee Enfield was s steal at 85.00!). It is simply a matter of looking for a good deal, buying used for the guns that do not matter (like Shotguns), or getting hand me downs like the Springfield Trapdoor and my pre-1900 shotgun collection, from family estates.
I hope to eentually get into collecting antique firearms, but that take either a great deal of luck or a large ban account. The first I have...sometimes...the latter...well, I'll revist that in another 5 years ( :) ).
The one nice thing about firearms is that they really do not depreciate in value. In fact, if you pick up certain guns that are released in lots inthe United States, they tend to increase in value as the demand increases but the available numbers for sale decreases (like the original, matching parts, never issued Yugoslavian SKS, that were...started selling at 89.00 and now you cannot find them for less than 260.00 unfired...).
These are ALL cheap guns...no Fulton Arms, no match grade Springfields or Kymbers, no 24 000.00 overunder breakopen 12 guages with 4000.00 English Walnut stocks....just a "shooting" collection, not a display (well at least those pictured).
Anyone can collect, well, anyone that lives in a elatively free society. ;)
Anyone can afford to start small, so long as you are 21. The sellers are out there...FFL or private and there are many deals to be had!
And it is VERY enjoyable...

Sorry, I meant post-ban.
The Lower receviers are all post-ban since I cold not justify spending and extra 500.00 to be able to have a threaded barrel for a baffle or flash suppressor.
So yeah, post-ban. Placing a pre-ban upper on your post-ban lower is illegal (for those that are not aware).
