Most liklely the only place to mount an aimpoint on a rifle with a fixed carry handle/rear sight without putting it on top of the handle itself and affecting cheek weld and line of sight.

I'm not sure, but depending on the mount and spacer/riser, you can get it to co-witness.

There is a goosneck mount that is supposed to be used in conjunction with fixed carry handles. if you have any play in your rail system, which from what I understand 1 out of 3 does, then mounting it on the rail is a bad idea. As a good friend of mine said while discusing this same issue, "just because you can does not mean you should."

On that particular set up, it is a shot from Buffer tech ad. the gun has a KAC RAS with Aimpoint claw mount and a spacer. This way, the front sight is sitting on the loer half of the optic window.

you can also achive the same setup using the gooseneck mount and the Aimpoint claw mount....

This is a real weapon, not an airsoft...

As far as long range shooting, the larger dot of the Aimpont makes it harder to deal with especailly with the sight sitting further out..

this is why I like EOTech a bit better cuz I can use the 1MOA dot for the longer distance shot.

Pros:

Body of the sight is further away and obscures less of your sight picture.
(doesn't really count) They have no choice because no other BUIS are available apart from the carry handle.

Cons:

Weapon becomes front heavy
The hand guard is not that solid and you are likely to lose zero if you drop the weapon or if the barrel heats up.

so what your saying here, is if your weapon has a rail on the upper receiver and does not have a carying handle fixed, then that would be the ideal place for such a site?

no, man...i wanna understand the reasonf for some operators uset to put the dot sight between the front sight and the carry handle....some people (experts in Jungle warfare) told me that this sistem is very confortable for shot range engage............but i think that it's very hard to take a good shoot with......do u?

The only reasons I can think of is that with the older A2 receiver the carry handle is permanantly attached. With an A2 receiver you have two mounting options; in front of the carry handle on a crane neck mount or on the handguards, or on top of the carry handle.

If you mount the Aimpoint in front of the carry handle, you have the same cheeck-weld and you are already looking over the iron sights if the Aimpoint fails. If you mount the Aimpoint on top of the carry handle, the shooter has to compensate for a much higher line of site, adapting a new cheeck weld. This also creates a larger parallax between line of site and actual bullet flight, meaning you lose some accuracy at ranges exceding say 50 yds (rough guesstimate).

Any of that make sense?

EDIT: Oh yea, also, I'm pretty sure the mounts used to place the Aimpoint directly on top of the carry handle obscure your view of the front site post through the rear apature, meaning you would not be able to quick transition to irons without removing the Aimpoint mount first.

I am not an "expert in Jungle warfare" however for some time I carried my M4 in a like fashion for several reasons -
- batteries were not as reliable or long lasting & the BUIS I had access to sucked - then bacame habit
- could use a PVS-14 w/out effort or rezeroing
- could remove the handle and use the 68 & PVS-7's in combo at night = the ability to look w/out bringing the weapon to head, but still have a night sight cap
- wanted the 68 for close in - turn it on at times needed/desired but still had both sights

What I don't understand is why you need more pics.

SMGLee just laid out exactly what you need. Play around with it and get it to work right...

You learn more that way...

right now i'm shooting with that sistem it's very hard to learn how take the shot at the range...but i've try it on movement: it's totaly different: very confortable......my experiment continued!!!!
