PYEONGTAEK, REPUBLIC OF KOREA: The Joint Venture-X1, an experimental high-speed vessle, sails in the sea off Pyeongtaek on the west coast, 25 March 2004, for training involving US and South Korean special forces units. The vessel has a top speed of 42 knots and can carry more than 350 soldiers and 545 tonnes of equipment. It was the first drill in which US army helicopters have landed on an army vessel in more than 30 years. The drill is part of annual US-South Korea joint exercises that began on March 22.
