Oh my, that's sexy. I don't care if they're blackmailing us, or if we have to consult congress every time we have to refuel it, WE NEED IT! If only for the eye candy.

no just involved in the project at different levels or with intent to buy, I don't think anyone actually ordered it yet ? Except 5 jets to the USAF.

No, it means they all paid at least $125 mln each for participating in the program. Not cheap, considering that just UK is getting what they wants (but UK paid $2 bln).

So much better looking that the boeing JSF !I kind of liked the redesign of the X-32 that would've been the production F-32. Of course, that redesign is one of the reasons that Boeing lost the contract. You can see the concept images here:
http://www.jsf.mil/gallery/gal_photo_cdp_boe_misc.htm
The McDonnell Douglas/Northrop Grumman/BAe design is pretty cool looking too, but was eliminated from the JSF competition during the Concept Definition/Design Research phase:

They get monetary aid earmarked for use with U.S. defense contractors, but it's not enough to pay for even half of the deal. The Israeli economy is growing, I can see why they can afford it.

Lightning II.. all version II 's are bad luck imho. The legacy of the original cant be beaten. (a tiny chance only if WW III breaks loose and humans surive). And notice this (from http://www.flightglobal.com/Articles/2006/07/07/207685/USAF+names+Lockheed+Martin's+F-35+JSF+the+Lightning.html ):
You voted for Black Mamba, but the US Air Force decided differently and so Lockheed Martin's F-35 Joint Strike Fighter has now been christened.
Lightning II? It doesnt even suit the plane! Its to versatile, light and small for that. Black Mamba? It isnt even black.. and why Mamba? A snake.. whats wrong with people?
Well.. whatever.. its a very beatiful plane indeed.. maybe a female version of F22 Raptor? (please dont hit me)

so which fighter is better performance wise? this or the f22?It's not really a matter of better. They're designed for different roles. The Raptor is intended to replace the F-15, and as such is faster (and can supercruise), has a longer range, and a more powerful radar, but is optimized for air-to-air combat with a secondary air-to-ground role. The F-35 is meant to replace the F-16, has newer and more advanced avionics, and is optimized for subsonic flight and the air-to-ground/strike role, with a secondary air-to-air capability.

I'm going to guess each bay...becuase if it would be a horribly inneffective fighter if it could only hold 1 1000pound bomb and no missiles for defense/offense. I remember reading that this will replace the a10...and if it can only hold 1000 pounds of arsenal, it would just not be feasable.

Aparently the electric generator can provide enough power for direct energy weapons to be used for the first time on a fighter this size. Should be a very interesting life for the F35.

Look's like a beast. Is 1,000 lb or 2,000 lb the maximum weight of weapons it can hold in each bomb bay?
In short, internally it can carry 2 x 2000 lbs JDAM.
(except, the F-35B can carry only 2 x 1000 lbs)
The other main weapon being integrated is the Small Diameter Bomb, of which it can carry a total of 8 internally. (I think 6 on F-35B)
In addition to the bombs, 2 Air to Air missiles can be fitted at the same time.
(distributed in 2 internal weapons bays, 4 stores)
