Not exactely, the PAH-1 is the BO-105 with TOW. The Tiger was PAH-2, but is now UHT (Unterstützungshubschrauber Tiger)

@Lysander

Dont know how many exactely now, 80 are ordered and found somewhere there will be 48 delivered by end of 2004. But this info can be wrong.

No no PAH-1 is armed with TOWs Bo-105 helo and Tiger is PAH-2 or something else don't remember
PAH prabably is something like Patrol Armed Helo or something similiar.

Geez.. the PAH-1 and Tiger look so much alike IMO... anyway, still waiting for an explanation what PAH stands for. :)
(definately not 'Patrol Armed Helo' as all German vehicle names & abbreviations are in German)

@Haiw

PAH means "PanzerAbwehrHubschrauber", means Antitank Helicopter. Tiger was formerly known as PAH-2.

But the Tiger is called now UHT "UntestützungsHubschrauber Tiger, means Support Helicopter Tiger. Because it will be used in more than just the Antitank role.
That means they will get a gun turret when Money is available and will use gunpods until then

Most likly the Mauser RMK 30. The first (??) recoilless machinegun.

From army-technology.com:

Recoilless Automatic Cannon RMK 30

The RMK 30 is the first recoilless automatic cannon in the world. High firepower, low mass, compactness, rigid and simple design as well as high operational availability are the main features of the RMK 30. High integration flexibility allows the RMK 30 to be used as combat mission kit on almost any kind of light military vehicle or as main armament for modern infantry fighting vehicles.

Der Tiger ist sehr schön, aber der Dingo ist nicht!
Anyways that's the extent of my German. Question about the Tiger though, I thought the French Tigers have gun turrets? How come the Germans don't and now are trying to put one on?

HELEX
03-26-2004, 02:23 AM
There was no demand for a gun turret because they were planned as a Antitank Helicopter. But this has changed to multifunctional purpose and it will be upgraded in the Future(we hope).

There are 3 version of the Tiger built:

1.) HAC Tigre (Helicoptére Anti-Char).
role: anti-tank
Weapons load: Only anti-tank missiles (8xHOT 2 or 8xTrigat LR) and 4xMistral for selfdefence.
Country: France
Amount: 100
Optronic: Osiris mast-mounted mastersight.

2. HAP Gerfault (Helicoptére d’Appui Protection)
Role: air-to-air combat and fire support
Weapons load: 1 x 30 mm cannon, 44 x SNEB missiles,
4 x Mistral missiles or 24 x SNEB missiles.
Country: France
Amount: 115
Optronics: No Osiris system, but IR and TV-cameras as well as laser guidance right below the main rotor. (-> without the osiris system ontop it makes him around 25km/h faster than the other 2 versions.)

3. UHT Tiger (Unterstützungshubschrauber Tiger)
role: multi-role fire support helicopter. Including anti-tank, fire support, escort, scout etc. Its basically a combined version of HAC and HAP.
Weapons load: anything from Mistral, HOT3, Trigat LR, SNEB, MG Pod. (Optional: the RMK 30 turrent gun)
Country: Germany
Amount: 212
Optronics: same as the HAC version (Osiris mastersight)

The german version was originally plant as a anti-tank version only, thats why a nose mounted turret gun was not planned, as the french anti-tank version doesnt have a turret gun either. But with the fact not to fight against a soviet tank army, the purpose of an anti-tank-helicopter-only became obsolet. Thats why germany switched form a anti-tank only version to a multi-purpose version, which maybe, and im sure it will, include a nose-mounted turret gun, the Mauser RMK 30 - The first recoilless automatic cannon in the world.

That's why Germany hasn't already put abig gun turret under it's Tiger's: The RMK 30 is under development process. it's going to be modified for Tiger-use. Because the Tiger pilots are still in training Germany doesn't need a big gun that fast. It'sprobably coming the next years. But then Germany will have the best gun for this mission.

The RMK 30 fires less rds per minute than the usual/older guns. The current system fires 300 rds/min!!!! It's acomplete electric gun so you can switch the firerate up and down. Bcause of it's construction it is more accurate , that's why it doesn't need a high fire-rate. It's made to fit also on light fighting vehicles bcause of it's recoilness!! The RMK 30 is low on weight and compact.

In future the RMK 30 should/is hopefully be integrated in following system: helicopters like the Tiger,NH90 (perhaps as a pod-version), in roboters, Wiesel,Dingo,Boxer, Fennek, Fox, in combat-UAV,in submarines as an self-defense over the waterline weapon, and as a navy weapon for small patrol boats.

u have to love it!!!!!!! :D

and it is easy to use, but it would be good, when they get guided missiles too

Not very good to be behind it then I guess. But for Tiger, and recon vehicles
like Wiesel and so forth it´s a interesting concept.

their they are testing a 12.7 mm gun on the eurocpotiger..

sure that they will get the rmk30?

"Noch in dieser Woche muss das Raketenschießen abgeschlossen sein, denn als nächster Testabschnitt ist das Schießen mit "Gun Pod 12,7 mm" (Schweres Maschinengewehr) angesetzt."

I take it as it could just be to get software and stuff like that to work, train
pilots, and it can probably quite easily be changed to the MK 30. But then on
the other hand there is also this one, hm:

"Für den Tiger sind unterschiedliche Bewaffnungs-Konfigurationen vorgesehen, beispielsweise Stinger-Luft-Luft-Flugkörper, Maschinengewehr 12,7 Millimeter, ungelenkte Raketen Typ FZ 70 Millimeter, Panzerabwehrlenkflugkörper HOT 3 sowie PARS 3"

and how is the german panzerfaust 3 guided?

The Panzerfaust is used for short Ranges in urban areas where guidance is not needed and against small fortifications, Buildings and so on because of its relatively big warhead.

Milan is the guided antitank weapon of the infantry.

Bv 206 HÄGGLUND

Ok, second try...

It is not a regular BV206, it is a armored version, 306 og 206S or whatever it is called.

In fact, it is the latest product of Hägglunds, the Bvs 10, bought by the Royal Marines.
Here are two pictures of Bv 206s (up-armored) and Bv 206

An earlier post mentioned the Marder would be replaced with the Puma, anyone know anything about this?

HELEX

Not completely, it will replace some of them because it is Air transportable. But not all in forseeable Future. It will be used "out of area".

But Marder has to be replaced completely sooner or later.
