So I'm watching this movie for the umpteenth time and one thing still bothers me.
Aliens have arrived on earth. Everyone accepts that Aliens are real now because we are at war with them.
But then Quaids character talks about his past Alien abductions and Goldblum's father talks about Area 51.... everyone still acts like they are nuts.
WTF

It's a piss take on the whole alien conspiracy.
Think about it. The movie is set simetime in the near future. Pullman's character has a young daughter and he served in the Gulf War.
The main characters grew up in the golden age of the space race, alien abductions, government conspiracies. They simply believed what the government was telling them.
Now the aliens have arrived and even though Quad's and Goldblum's fathers characters talk about Area 51 and alien abductions it still is hard to accept condisering how they have been raised and what the government has told them.
The reactions from everyone is quite acceptable and explainable. Also bare in mind that such an event would still bring massive disbelief due to religion, ect.
Also once your considered a crackpot. Your always a crackpot.

Even more bothersome to me is that they killed Harry Connick, Jr. I'll never forgive those slimy little bastards for that. Never.:-(

Should've included a spoiler alert.
They defeat the aliens by flying a fifty year old space craft into the mothership and nobody notices. This is the equivalent of a P-38 turning up at Edwards Air Force Base and everybody being oblivious to it because it fits in with the F-15s so well.
These aliens are incredibly advanced... Lasers, force-fields, all that other good stuff. So why do they still need our satellites to communicate with each other?
The film's a bag of wank, but an enjoyable bag of wank.

I don't like the way that it basicly says, "America won the world back!" The British people in that film sound like Victorians. No one in the UK has spoken like they do for over 50 years.
Can't stand it, I think the director is German but its still such a load of patriotic drivel.

What should make you go WTF more is the fact that viruses only work against computers with the same operating system, so the aliens must have been running Windows.

I also like how the aliens decided to just up and give away their plan as to what they are going to do to the planet. It's like a bad cartoon.

Most cities have been destroyed. The airforce wiped out. Whats left is sitting in the boneyard and all Earth has is a bunch of alcoholic vietnam vets as pilots.

The whole point was unifying the world and that all the countries working together overcame the aliens.

Yea, would have been great if the aliens had deployed their ground forces in that movie. All of a sudden the alien troops are getting pelted with rocks by the Palestinians. :lol:

Me and my borther saw the trailer and we both agreed.
The trailer we saw did not show any of the lead actors, just extras looking up in the sky, where dark shadows approached, untill the last seconds where mayhem unleashed. And then we knew we had to see this movie, we knew it was crap, but we knew we had to see it

i am surprised how they where able to get all the suport equipment out to the desert for all those planes. also inthe desert base with all the israelis and arabs, why where the Brits in charge?.
