Here is some food for thought...China is updating and equiping their armed forces for more than just "defence". Recent devolopments in fighter aircraft, naval ships,ICBMs,and ground forces continue at an alarming rate. Has anyone considered that China, may be fueling islamic insurgencies around the world? Or, starting instability in the middle east for their countrys gain?

Has anyone considered that China, may be fueling islamic insurgencies around the world? Or, starting instability in the middle east for their countrys gain?My first guess would be no. Instability in the region would likely raise crude oil prices and have a negative effect on their economy.

You have not really come to any revelation here. If you actually look at the figures it is not as alarming.

The world has become small... so small that instability in any region of the world will effect every other part of the world.
China wouldn't want to start any major sh*t, their economy is tied with the rest of the world, and if they want to keep prospering they'll do everything to keep good relations with the West.

Who cares if they get strong. No one made the US the boss. China wishes to develop to a level comparable to other modern militaries, good on them.

As long as they develop their government to a level comparable to the other countries which have those militaries im all for it.

Please back up your claims. What makes you think China would fuel islamic insurgencies when it's having it's own problems with islamic hardliners in it's western provinces. And please tell us how it's alarming when China is mearly updating decades old equipment with equipment that is just starting to come to par with western equipment. The only real outlet they could even remotely use their new equipment is in a farfetched attempt to take over Taiwan and that aint happening anytime soon. Economic and political force is whats going to prevent China's take over of Taiwan, not military.

just a working theory of sorts.
personally i feel radical islam can be just as big a threat to china. or in chinas case with the massive waves of newfound christians, they might get some radicals from that. hell, islamists have killed chinese aid and repair workers in afghanistan. china is certainly not immune.

NO! No one pays attention to China. It is no longer included in the 2005 and later atlas and all Chinese products now say "Made In _____" on them.

Yes I do pay attention to China more for economic reasons than military.
China is one of the largest trading partners with the United States. They are also the largest holder of US treasury bonds. The bonds allows ordinary Americans like many on this post to aquire financing for housing and cars at a reasonible interest rate. If China did not buy these bonds, most of the housing industry would stop overnight and we would be renters.
China's modernization of its armed forces is a bit overblown. The military is trying to transform its military doctrine from a "people's war" to one that is in line with other developed nations. The People's Liberation Army (PLA) is the largest military force n the world in manpower. However, its equipment and doctrine is stuck in the 1950's. In order to re-equip its entire armed force of over a million, its would set back China economically. What they doing is reducing the overall manpower and replace it with a smaller more professional force able to deploy internally from any threats. In the end it may be a wash.
Furthermore, keep in mind that China has not nor it does intend to threatend
the United States. They have a strict and consistant policy of non-intervention. There is no evidence of China supporting terrorist of any kind. In fact China has been one of the most important collaborators with the United States in combating Islamic fundamentalism in East and Central Asia.
China has been a partner and leader in the 6 way talks with North Korea. China has also reduced its rehtoric over threatening Taiwan militarily and opted an "economic bear hug" approach with the Island.
In sum, we have enough problems in the Middle East, Africa, South America, and global warming. The United States cannot afford to create another enemy at this time. If so, the ending would be akin to a classic Quentin Teretino film where everyone is pointing guns at each other and nobody comes out alive.

I certainly do, our iron ore exports to China just went up 19% and the same sort of noise is being made about our LNG. I work in the resource industry and China booming is good news according to my bank manager.

No, 100% impossible. China is currently fighting islamic insurgents in it's own country, there's no reason for them to be supporting other ones that could, and very may well be, linked to those.

Me, even few times a month, at my gas station when I see the price of petrol. Incereasing consumption of gas (the most developing car market in the world)an other energetic raw materials, in China makes so f...ing prices high (not only taxes). That makes me angry...

The information I have compiled about the Chinese military comes from several sources. Some comes from current events in the news, and from reasearch into military build ups world wide. China over the years (with the help of technology from the west, especially the United States, and Russia). China does hold alot of economic clout within the US..especially with the manufacturing of US consumer goods(oldsmobile cars, made in the 1980-1990's is a very good example, and the manufacture of aircraft by boeingis another). Another front that presents a grave threat to world intrest is the Chinese subversion into computer technology, especially conducting internet attacks worldwide. The examples given are why China is no longer just a sleeping giant that used to be taken for grated, but a very real and dangerous threat. Just my 2 cents worth.

Could you present these several sources from which your information was gained? Also, could you present a well reasoned analysis to your conclusion that China is 'a very real and dangerous threat'.
