View Full Version : Worst Injury You Ever Had

Well, I have broken my arm four times, had a toltal of around 20 stitches, broken a finger, and doslocated a pinkie toe etc etc etc......

The biggest injury I ever had was "broken arm" number two. I was mountain biking with some friends and we came down a huge hill. The end of the trail came down into a parking lot in the back of an Apartment complex. The trail basically turned right into a sidewalk so you could take it at about 20 miles per hour. After years riding the trail we all new our limits and we had become very good at taking that last bit of trail VERY fast.

It didnt hurt that we could impress alot of the girls (or thought we could) at the pool who could see us coming down the hill at break neck speeds. Well, it turns out that day a construction crew had come by and taken out a section of the sidewalk. They had dug a hole about 10 feet across and 5 feet deep just over a rise. Well all my freinds jumped the curb and were riding in the road but I stayed on the sidewalk and was talking to them while I went along. I turn my head and HOLY ****, I see the big hole. Nothing left to do but try to jump it or at least get far enough so that part of my body flies over the huge hole. At that point I had no idea how deep it was.

Well, I try to jump it and of course dont make it. My front tire hits the other side, the fork fold over into the fram, I go flying over the handlebars and flip over face first into the concrete and then roll backwards into the ditch.

Injuries include: Broken left arm in four places, gash in chin requiring 6 stitches, gash in back from cutting on rusty edge of pipe about halfway down the whole requiring tetnus shots and 10 stitches, broken index finger on right hand, two sprained ankles from falling into the hole, two bruised leg bones due to contact with handlebars, fractured collar bone, right side of face devoid of skin due to pavement, right at elbow deviod of skin due to pavement. Scrape and bruises all over.

Well the real ****ty thing is that none of my freinds actually saw what had happened. They were riding so fast that they quickly went ahead into the apartment complex and went swimming....without me. I was so delerious form the pain that I didtn even think to contact help. I carried my brand new $700 Diamond Back mountian bike (Sorrento model which was hot **** when I bought it hehe) 5 miles back home through the woods. I dont know how I made it but I did. It was a very painful 5 miles and the way I carried the bike cince I only had one good arm made the gears dig into the back of my neck. Funny that with all the bad injuries the thing I remmember most is those damn gears digging into my neck the whole time.........

Anyways, the most permenent thing was the broken left arm but Im right handed so it wasnt too bad. I remmember the most annoying thing was the smell of the plaster cast after about 20 days because I got it wet alot and the doctor refused to take it off anyway and give me a new one......then I got really scared when they took it off and my arm looked like I had polio but it grew back to normal size and strength in no time...

Well there is my worst single days injury. Whats yours?

While playing cricket I was fielding at silly mid off, the wicket keeper jumped over the top of me to take a catch. He missed and as he come down he bit my head and lost his four top front teeth in the process. I got a 25 stich gash that became infected (they reckon a human bite is one of the worst you can get) and my head doubled in size.

I think one of the most painful things I experienced is this:
while on beach, I jumped in water landing one one toe and broke it, it sounds strange but the sand was *very* hard packed plus my own stupidity... then I somehow jumping on one leg made it to the clothes changing booth. Changed my clothes, and on the way out Oh the terror! A part of the booth`s construction, a metal pipe on the floor on the way out and OF COURCE I managed to hit my toe against it. Very, very painful.
Allso long before that, a thumb between a fast closing door and wall... that was a lot of fun. Countless times bones flipped out of joints, a 4 meter fall on my back... all the fun things you can have!

Mine was a biking incident also. I go trail riding whenever I can. So I'm zipping down this trail at frightening speeds (downhill). It's in a forest so there was a lot of tree roots protruding on the trail. No biggie, just a bumpy ride.

So I make a turn and my front wheel must've got caught between two roots and my bike stopped almost completely. So the back-end of the bike flipped up and yours truely is now a projectile. So I ended up flying off the bike into a tree, then I shoulder rolled right down into a small creek. Luckily, the jagged rocks broke my fall. I ended up 40 feet away from the accident scene.

Forntunantly, I didn't break any bones. But I was mighty sore the next day, and I really whored the peroxide and gauze. My right knee cap was totally skinned and the excess flesh was hanging off it, I got a big gash on my head, my elbows are skinned, and I got a few rather nasty bruises. Blood was running down my face, my arms and my legs. I mean, I put Jim Caviezel as Jesus to shame.

It was a lot of fun though, and I went down the same trail the next weekend with a little more success.

Office scissors lacerated my leg, about 6 inches above the ankle. The blade went pretty deep, about an inch away from hitting bone. Lots of stitches and several years later, there still seems to be some sort of "cavity" in that area. Seems the skin healed, but feels like there's no flesh under it. Infact, I can make a mini-bongo out of my leg.

...Okay, maybe not.

My worst injury...broke a few bones falling out of a tree when I was little. Other than that...hurt my knee real bad in training around 1980, and got a few scrapes in Lebanon, but nothing too serious. And somebody bopped me over the head with some sort of large blunt object in Bosnia one time. Felt like a dang anvil, that hurt real bad. p-) I mean talk about a headache. :cantbeli:

Cartilage Fracture: The cartilages bend in response to trauma, but like celery, eventually snap and break. Fixing cartilage fractures can be more difficult because they are more difficult to "pop" back into place.

Never had it fractured, but had my fair share of injuries to my tailbone as well. Always hurts like hell... :(
Once had the skin on my tailbone scratched to a point that it was pretty much burnt, couldn't lie on my back for a few days.

Anyway, worst injury must have been either bruising 3 fingers in a row (2 nearly broken), or an injury to one of my toes... At the time I thought it was 'just a bruise', but years later it still hurts when bumped, and it has somewhat misgrown, so I suppose it was broken.

I have a permanent detroyed knee because of rugby and also I once broke my elbow after a car crash, but, the most interesting wound I ever had was the one I had when I was 15, a goon decided to "place" a knife blade in my arm because I didn't want to give him 6 euros ( 1000 ptas). After stabbing me he run away but he met a police van just at the end of the street, the matter was that it was a riot police van heading for my town police headquaters after a demonstration. I remenber a very big cop getting out of the van and facing him, the goon tried also to stab the cop, guess he was blind or idiot because 8 riot cops decided to show him a little bit of education. Poor devil.

Well the bike accident and broken arm, stitches etc was the worst accident I have ever had. Now if we are talking purely about pain well I know for sure what that one was and it wasnt my little bike accident. Now, I know someone mentioned having a nerve above thier tooth go haywire and not be able to sleep. I have had that too and I know its a bad amount of pain. I had it for four days hoping it was just a really bad toothache. I brushed my teeth several times, checked for a cavity, etc. When the pain started shooting up the side of my head and I could hardly think I went to the doctor.

BUT, that was not the most pain I have been in. By far and away, by leaps and bounds and leaps, the most pain I have ever been in was when I had an serious ear infection that nearly caused me to go %100 deaf in my right ear. It was so bad that I honestly considered suicide. It felt as if a magical steel ball was inbetween my skull and my brain and it was expanding at a rate of about 1mm every minute. I could not sleep or eat and I threw up constantly. I think on the last day before I went to the emergency room I threw up 15 times. I starting puking out my stomach lining near the end.

Put it this way people, I would rather have both my arms ripped off by a lion, get sprayed with pepper spray, get shot through my kneecaps, and have all my teeth and nails pulled out with pliars before I would go through that again. I know it sounds like I am exageratting but I swear I would take that without hesitating for a second if it meant avoiding that kind of pain I felt from that ear infection again. I literally dont there could be a greater physical pain short of having your skull crushed in a vice ever so slowly.......

Strange thread this, but here goes:

In one incident: fractured skull, broken jaw, ruptured right kidney, ruptured liver. Car accidents are more fun on TV.

Also, weirdest injury was when I tripped while carrying a glass coke bottle - sliced completely through the muscles in my hand, required a long procedure with a "plastic surgeon" to put the muscle layers back together followed by 8 weeks in a cast. It was quite unpleasant  Damn lucky that I had no nerve damage, though.

Well, in my case, I had some terrible foot injury. I can't tell the circumstances, but my foot looked like a meat loaf. :). I can tell you, nothing is as painfull as injured foot. I had 3 reconstruction operations (I spent 3 months in hospital). Now my foot i stiff (in bloody medical language it's called tripple arthrodesis brrrrr) and can barrely move my fingers. Allso half of my foot is numb. But there is more. I was unconscious for 2 days because of the pain. I was taking tremendous amounts of morphine to ease this pain. It worked :) So if you are injured, make sure your buddies will apply you morphine.

Worst actual physical pain was re-injuring my right nut. I injured my right nut during a wrestle-off in high school. One kid go lucky and beat the guy I normally had challenge me during our weekly wrestle off for top position. He was really in experienced so he was sort of dangerous. You always avoid the really new guys because they do stupid things and hurt you even though you beat them. Any way, this guy tries to keep me from taking him down and he knees me in the nuts. My right nut swells up to a baseball size and is purple. Ole One-eye was riding to the left the whole time. I went to the tournament anyway and gingerly beat all 3 opponents. I had to wrangle the boys in an extra supportive jock, spandex, and singlet before cowboy walking out to the mat. After some jostling and some uncomfortable moments, I was on the bus ride back. A few of the guys were horsing around and I got smacked in the hoo-hoo-dilly. I think I stopped breathing. I cried and stayed in the fetal position for the rest of the 3 hour trip home. Breathing was still painfull for some reason. Even the aluminum bat I took to the head and earned me 8 stitches didn't hurt as much as having my right nut as a hackey sack for the second time.

Most annoying injury: 2 busted ribs. Hurt quite a bit over a long time.

Most painful injury: Dislocated shoulder.

Most gratifying injury: The above mentioned ribs. Got em in a game of football, my first game as Linebacker. Man oh man, I was soooo high on adrenaline and endorphines I felt like God himself. 13 tackles including 4 sacks plus a safety was my harvest. W0000t! woot woot woot

Most interesting injury: The dislocated shoulder. Only injury that ever required a trip to the hospital. Was inteeresting seeing it from a patients perspective, normally Im the one taking care of the patient. It was... interesting.

Have had 4 operations on my left big toe, since a "friend" put his boot om my toe. That didn't hurt to bad, but the operations..f**k :|

A couple of weeks ago I was doing the schools obstacle course. On exiting the crawling bit (was beating my own record :D ) my knee came in contact with a very hard bench. I walked like I'd dropped a soap in a prison shower for two weeks.

Oh, and last week, my balls were grinded by a classmate. After clenching them, he bravely ran 25 meters away and shouted abuse at me. ;)
