I read some ppls post on the net about defragging the pod ... ppl say that its good to defrag because it loads the songs faster, others say its not good to defrag your ipod because it shortens the life of the HD and the others say that they can't see any difference.

there are times when my ipod takes awhile to load a particular song which is annoying and makes me think the battery died. Mine is a 40gig ipod.

For personal experience I won't touch my 40gig Ipod...I've done it with my gf Ipod mini 4GB and then battery and hard disk started having glitches. I know that the 3rd Gen Minis had problems, so maybe it's not fault of the defrag, but that was a strange coincidence.

I say just frag it, simple as that place it next to a frag, pull the pin and run.

Im saying this because I hate Itunes bigtime

Itunes is awesome. My ipod already loads songs fast enough... but I've never heard of defraging it. I know I accidentally reformated it instead of my HD, and I royally ****ed it up. But a few months later and she has forgiven me, and working at 75%.

I have a second gen iPod but avoid iTunes like the plague.

If your battery does go out, it's really not that expensive to have it replaced. I though it was going to cost me an arma nd a leg recently when my went out, but it ended up being about $60 total.
