elo.

this is kinda starting to annoy me...alot of topics just degrade into the usual israel vs palestine wars. e.g any pics posted to do with the IDF inevitably end up this way.

i was kinda hoping maybe some more moderation could be applied, to keep it 'on topic' so to speak.

I agree as well. EVERY topic involvin the world Israel ends up in a flam war. I have to say I myself as many others get involved in the flame wars, but it has to stop.

Why don't we just make a rule, that no one critizes my favorite country, whichever one that is, no matter what they do?

Sounds like a great idea.

Except that the majority of people are for, that 'freedom of speech' thing.

Get real.

Most mods are monitoring this. Balkan threads went this route and we had to put the muscle on all Balkan threads. Russia/Chechnya threads went the same way. Israeli/Palestinian threads are looking to follow suit. It sucks but instead of instantly terminating all country vs country debates, we would rather let them work themselves out. Debate is a tool that helps open minds on this thread. We would rather moderate the ignorant rather than moderate the topics. But, when push comes to shove, blanket modding will happen.

Would crowd control sound better?

Either way, the hose gets turned on the whole crowd when things get out of hand.

Wait... should I have said "hose" around Laworkerbee? I can hear Beavis giggling in the background.

I've always thought it would be great to have an MP.net drunken bar bash perhaps with cage matches going on in the back.

Here is the Greek-Turkish cage, Russian cage and so on.

I was trying to come up with a smart assed remark about hoses but this headache of mine is getting the better of me today.

Read my post again a few times. It say's discussion in the discussion section. Photo's & Video's stricly for comments on the photo's and video's, NOT discussions on how those tanks are used to oppres those people blablabla...

Get the point? There are SPECIFIC sections on MP.net forums for SPECIFIC reasons.

I can agree that some attention be paid to some of the thread hi-jacking going on. But, being too restrictive isn't very productive either. For instance if I only allow comments about the the photos restrict any dialogue, then basically "cool" or "nice pics" will be the depth of discussion on those threads. Why bother posting then? Some threads don't really require much more than that. Others are a bit more thought provoking. Others provoke flame wars and trolling. We are tracking that sort of thing but we can't be everywhere, all the time.

Your 'political rant' is then, in the correct section.

But petitioning the mods to promote your opinion by 'moderating' opposing opinions is an attempt to curtail other people's right of free speech.

thats one way to look at it.

however i just wanted to express my disdain at seeing posts go off topic and wanted to bring it to the attention of the mods.

and its not a political rant.
the definition of this section is

"Post all non military-related political discussions and current events here, along with any crazy rants you can't hold in anymore."

this is just that...a rant.

Yes. Political issues should be kept here as a courtesy to members who don't
like those matters. I try to stick to that ROE.

If you take a look though in reference to Pal/Israeli debates, it's almost always the pro Israeli side who start the political diatribe.

Personally, that's the main reason I feel the need to 'chime in.'

This is about the only forum that is able to acheive any rational debate/discussion on that issue. The mods here have a pretty tough job trying to provide for free speech. What they have to do, is judge each post on it's own merits. It would be much easier for them to simply exclude an entire point of view.

Actually the Clinton administration, though flawed in many of its mideast policies, was doing a reasonable job of keeping the Jews and Arabs from gutting eachother. If it's moderation that's needed, perhaps we need to review the Bush administration's blank check policy.
