it seems we have the identity of a leaker of classified info. novak has finally come out and id'd rove as his source for the column which has caused so much legal trouble for the parties involved. interstingly, novak says his recollection of events 'differs' from rove's. either way, it seems novak started cooperating early on with gov't prosecutors. link (http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/071206dnnatnovak.1194501.html).
Columnist Robert Novak said publicly for the first time Tuesday that White House political adviser Karl Rove was a source for his story outing the identity of CIA officer Valerie Plame.
In a column, Novak also says his recollection of his conversation with Rove differs from what the Rove camp has said.
"I have revealed Rove's name because his attorney has divulged the substance of our conversation, though in a form different from my recollection," Novak wrote. Novak did not elaborate.

Maybe Rove should go work for the NYT if he loves leaking so much!

So are all the right wing internet warriors on here going to call for Rove to be done for treason then?
After all it is against the law to 'out' a CIA agent.

Novak states that the special investigator is already aware of the content of the conversation - and Fitzgerald has already decided not to press charges against Rove.
We already know that administration officials get to leak stuff, and it's not a leak. That is to say, the President's office is unique in that they get to declassify things pretty much at will if they determine that it's advantageous. But Bush has said he'd fire whoever leaked this - indicating that he did not Ok the leak. So...it would seem that either Bush did not OK the leak and has to fire Rove now...or that Bush really did OK the leak...and has to admit to it in order not to fire Rove.
I would love to know exactly what the conversation was. Maybe the truth is somewhere in the middle - sort of a nod and a wink - enough for Novak to get the point but not enough to constitute an actual admission?
My guess is that Rove may suddenly decide to resign his post for a lucrative consulting career and book deal. :)

Well, this is certainly not news, but atleast it's been made official. Now I'd like to see it made official, that Cheney gave the greenlight for the leak; he's the one that should fry for this mess; Rove is simply the naive fallguy here.

Also from your article:
A spokesman for Rove's legal team, Mark Corallo, said that Rove did not even know Plame's name at the time he spoke with Novak, that the columnist called Rove, not the other way around, and that Rove simply replied he had heard the same information that Novak passed along to him regarding Plame.
Additionally, Novak stated that (source here (http://www.humaneventsonline.com/article.php?id=15988)):
Following my interview with the primary source, I sought out the second administration official and the CIA spokesman for confirmation. I learned Valerie Plame's name from Joe Wilson's entry in "Who's Who in America."
...from Bill Harlow, the CIA public information officer who was my CIA source for the column confirming Mrs. Wilson's identity. I answered questions using the names of Rove, Harlow and my primary source.
A federal investigation was triggered when I reported that former Ambassador Joseph Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame Wilson, was employed by the CIA and helped initiate his 2002 mission to Niger. That Fitzgerald did not indict any of these sources may indicate his conclusion that none of them violated the Intelligence Identities Protection Act.
So, the question is, "who was Novak's primary source"? Obviously it wasn't Rove.
El Hombre, your post couldn't be more misleading if you tried.

BOB NOVAK, My Leak Case Testimony: 'I learned Valerie Plame's name from Joe Wilson's entry in 'Who's Who in America'... MORE Published reports that I took the Fifth Amendment, made a plea bargain with the prosecutors or was a prosecutorial target were all untrue... MORE... My primary source has not come forward to identify himself... Bill Harlow, the CIA public information officer who was my CIA source for the column confirming Mrs. Wilson's identity. I learned Valerie Plame's name from Joe Wilson's entry in 'Who's Who in America'... I answered questions using the names of Rove, Harlow and my primary source. Above from headline at Drudge Report Copyrite 2006...whaddaya think of that?
So Joe Wilson, Valerie's hubby was the original source of Novaks "shocking" disclosures. Suddenly, the leftist media seem to get away with publishing everything but the truth of the matter...MM

Huh how did you figure that out. I presume he didn't put in Who's Who that he is married to a CIA agent.

I hereby retract my previoius comment. Gat dang it - talk about a misleading story.
From the story on CNN;
The columnist said he learned of Plame’s CIA employment from a source he still refuses to publicly identify, and then confirmed with Rove and then-CIA spokesman Bill Harlow, whose roles in talking to Novak have been previously reported.
Novak said for the first time that prosecutors looking into the leaks already knew his sources when he agreed to disclose them.
So he learned about it elsewhere, then confirmed with an administration official and the CIA itself. Woo call the police.

Fry? The administration can declassify whatever it wants to, whenever it wants to - they have that unique ability, by law. If Cheney "leaked" it (again, not really a leak) - the very worst that could happen is that he lies to the special investigator and gets perjury charges (of course I don't think we know what he said) and that would also make Bush a big fat liar because one would have to assume that he knew as well.
But despite the media circle jerk - there's still nothing here except for Libby getting caught in a lie. But keep on wishing on that star - because when you want it really bad, and with a little bit of magic, all your dreams can come true.:)
