View Full Version : Putin takes swipe at Cheney

MOSCOW - President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday called Vice President **** Cheney’s criticism of Russia “an unsuccessful hunting shot,” a caustic comment that underlines tensions ahead of the Group of Eight summit this weekend.

Under fire from critics who say his country does not deserve to be in the G-8 because of democratic backsliding during his more than six years in power, a confident Putin said the elite club of wealthy nations needs Russia because of its energy riches and nuclear might.

In three interviews with Western TV networks posted on the Kremlin Web site Wednesday, days before the summit in St. Petersburg, Putin set out what sounded like ground rules for dealing with an increasingly assertive Russia, saying his nation is open for constructive criticism but will not be pushed around. I have dealt with Americans long enough (11.5 years) to realise that all of the technology, brains and money in US come from or belong to Asia, Europe or Arabs. The only thing that Americans can claim as their own are obesity, EXTREMELY poor education, ignorance and bad manners...

So you see it is quite reverse: all what we have in Russia is ours and we are completely self-reliant and self-sufficient and everything that you have is just...well you get my point.

It's a favorable job market - US has high salaries, balanced regulation of businesses and some of the lowest education rates in the 1st World Nations. With High School drop out rate being as high as 50% in some Counties - it's no wonder that a good portion of the white collar jobs are filled by H1 Visa holders or naturalized immigrants. Some posters on this board consider living abroad a criminal behavior and US being a nation of preset allowed behaviors and pre-conceived ideas of everybody having the same - the fact that an immigrant from a totalitarian state can formulate his or her own ideas and formulate their own way of life (and speak their opinion)... That's irony.

You are the one ready to get your bags packing - so why won't you? At least, when I wasn't happy - I didn't stick around for years of whine and moan.

Wrong guess.

11.5 years ago I got "all expenses paid + allowance" deal from the US government (Bob Dole specificaly), later my skills and talents were noticed by the US corporate world, which presently employs me to our mutual benefit...
So no, I don't live here, I just work here and I would not even stick around for that if not for the certain personal reasons.
As for my mother, she only visited US once, endured 4 weeks and said "never again, I'll stick to Europe", dad didn't even want to come.

You know what the difference between US and Russia is?
People who visit Russia are always suprised and amazed at what they see, they can't believe how little if anything actual life overthere has to do with all that garbage and lies that is being fed to them by the media and politicians.

At the same time I am yet to meet a single person(family, friends or aquintances) who could say that US met or exceeded their expectations after visiting it in person, it is always a dissapointment...

There are looks/image and there is substance and US is definitely falling short on the later. An attractive box with nothing inside...

I do not hate US, I just have no respect for it, simple like that.
There is nothing for me to respect here: no culture, no unique historical achievements, no selfless struggles, no overcoming the odds.
All what I see is just a society that leaches off the rest of the world and has no shame in benefiting from others troubles (sometimes it creates those troubles artificially).

And before you open your mouth again and start telling me how ungratefull I am, remember I do not owe US anything, US owes me (in taxes), I didn't begg to come here - I was invited and the fact is that I am much more valuable to US than an average American citizen (again taxes and spending habbits wise).

In Russia the 200 richest families own 85 % of the peoples wealth... so ? (1999 that is, couldn't find anything more recent.)

The difference is that in the US there is still something like a middle-class.

Just take a look at the GDP's:

USA: GDP - per capita: $41,800 (2005 est.)
Russia: GDP - per capita: $11,100 (2005 est.)

So I understand that this is all just flamebait, but whatever:

So, Bob Dole went out to seek you and offered all this stuff? Sure you didn't throw your hand out there? And you only work here for "certain personal reasons"...yeah, like theres more opportunity here then you could attain back home. Sounds like your mother and father had years of that propaganda you say we've had so much of.

Exactly what lies are being "fed" to us by the media and politicians about your country? You think they give a **** about Russian lifestyle? Does that sound like something people would be interested in to you? No, so no one covers it. And I'm so sorry that your friends and family are biased/wierd.

Nothing is attractive to a guy who feels that he has to prove that his country is better than ours.

No, you hate the US. Its pretty obvious judging by the way you talk about it. No culture? This is the melting pot, we have a very unique culture. Its so popular that people all over the world like to assimilate it. Movies, clothes, restraunts...unique historical achievements? Like overcoming communism, landing on the moon? And NO country has selfless struggles, there is always something for them to gain from it. We overcame the odds to have the largest economy in the world, to have the most powerful military; and don't give me any crap about my stating those FACTS are why people hate Americans. Facts are facts, accept them and shut up. Once again ALL countries lookout for themselves first including Russia, so don't piss and moan about us being the big bad USA.

Ok I'll say it, how ungrateful of you. Your spending habits seem to be the product of your profits from working in the US, so kiss my American ass Ivan. Get off your high horse and realize that this IS the land of opportunity as witnessed by yourself, we are capable of great things, and the only reason you dislike our leadership is because you were inclined to hate them from the start.

Lets make a deal, you go back home and sever all ties with the USA. Prove to us that we need you so much. I for one think we can get by without you.

I have to admit that I was surprised when I visited 2 years ago. Moscow might be rich but that wealth is nowhere to be seen in many other parts of the country. Vyborg for example is a real ****hole. Buildings are in terrible condition (many should have been torn down decades ago), windowplanes broken, trash everywhere, beggars, grenade hits still visible in the walls, roads full of holes etc.The abandoned hospital construction site reminded me of NK's Ryugyong hotel . Best parts of the city were finnish-made stone buildings that were the only ones with some dignity left. If I were a russian I would not boast with my country too much at least not yet

Well it was kind of sad to see things like that when it would not have required much to put them in order. Little plaster and paint in the walls, new asphalt, windows, litter boxes and more people to street cleansing duties. The city would have looked completely different.
