Stennis, Miss. (Oct. 23, 2003) - Members of Special Boat Team Two Two (SBT-22) practice narrow river beach extractions under hostile fire conditions. SBT-22’s primary mission is to conduct special operations in riverine environments. Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewmen (SWCC) operate and maintain the state-of-the-art, high-performance boats and ships used to support Navy SEALs (Sea, Land & Air) and special operations missions. Focusing on clandestine infiltration and extraction of SEALs and other special operations forces, SWCC provide dedicated, rapid mobility in shallow water areas as well as open water environments.

Running a suped-up modified cigarette boat at full speed through narrow river channels is a skill few possess. Team 22 in Stennis, Miss., specialize in it and they are the ones called on to deploy with SEALs in this type of environment. (All Hands magazine photo by: Photographer's Mate 1st Class (AW) Shane T. McCoy, August 2004, pg. 30.)

The hull design of Team 22 riverine boats enables them to turn extremely tight channel corners and stop on a dime without flooding the craft. Crewmen must be able to not only hold on but also fire weapons under these violent conditions. (All Hands magazine photo by: Photographer's Mate 1st Class (AW) Shane T. McCoy, August 2004, pg. 29.)

I hope Jethro & Bubba don't hunt to close to the river's edge today! ;-)
