I was the AstSysop for Compuserve's Military Forum for almost 15 years. CSi Military Forum for years was the only game in town when it came to military affairs. For the record, back when the rules were enforced a message like yours would be considered imposing on the jurisdiction of the Sysops/Moderators, etc and they were handled pretty harshly. It was one thing to send a private message to the staff about a problem in a message or thread and another as you have handled it. Foul language, crude messages, flames, etc. have become the norm in the last ten years, so it is most likely as you believe it is.

Finally, in my 15 years of experience, I have learned that those that gripe the most about other members saying "I mean it", are also the same ones who take offense the fastest at photos or messages if it is their ox that is being gored as they say. For example if a photo in humor or satire was posted about the armed forces of the US being cowards or surrender freaks, I guess you would just view it as just good ole boy fun or you would handle it in a PM? Also, you will not have to worry about the thread being locked. What will happen is that messages like yours will make most uncomfortable and the thread just dies for lack of participation.

15 years of experience should have taught you to lurk a bit more. Orionhawk was doing his best to keep the thread on topic. He's been doing his best to "self police" the thread so that Mods don't have to get involved. It's called courtesy. Any Yob can report a post. Orion simply wanted to keep the arguement in house before having to blow the whistle. Get the facts or speak from real knowledge before you assume to lecture. If you genuinely have the experience then we could use it around here. Just get a feel for the crowd before you mount your soapbox.

The basic idea was to create the ultimate flying tank-buster to fight a Russian invasion of Western Europe (this was in the days when Soviet tanks were still superior to most US\NATO tanks, it wasn't untill the arrival of the M1 Abrams that NATO had more than a snowballs chance in hell to defeat a soviet attack on western europe in a conventional war)

It was also a responce to lessons learned in Vietnam, back then most ground attack aircraft were still relatively slow-flying propeller aircraft that were easily shot down by AAA and SAM's, and they really felt they needed an aircraft that could get into trouble, and out of it, bloody fast. And to do that, it also needed a weapon that could deliver lots of rounds on target in the few seconds or less it had the chance.

It's called the National Guard, we had some augment us on patrol, back in 2004, one fatty SPC (E4) could not even climb up the side of a M113, it was shameful, he was like 48 years old too (a least he served, so I give him a little respect, but if he was my soldier, he feel my pain, deployment or no deployment, guard or no guard, standards are there are there for a reason, and as an NCO, it my job to enforce them).

I didnt make weight for along time, but I never got that big! All you need is to be tall and a thick neck to pass the army height and weight. Usually if a soldier is trying to stay in shape they just get threatend with seperation and cant be promoted. We didnt do PT in Iraq for 12 months, an article in the Army Times stated that the average soldier is gaining 10-15 lbs in Iraq.

we had to do PT and take a PT test, I was in 1ID, and it was full of fun BS, I guess because of all the 12 hour patrols, I never had time to eat at the defac, it was always to far to go.''

we had chow detail get food, and deliver it for shift change, also the 1SG always supplied midnight chow. we worked 3 days, 14 hours including 12 our patrols, 3 nights that 16 hours because we have to draw and turning the night scopes for all the weapons etc, 2 day fixing the tracks and one day for all the other BS, like classes, EO classes, more EO classes, building stuff out of wood for the command etc etc.

the nearest defac was 2 miles away, and I was too tired to go. When I did go, about once a month, it was good. I can see why soldiers are getting fat. Also all those burger kings, pizza huts, and subways.

too true, NCO's to blame, not the soldier. My Chain of concern always punishes the NCO more for bad soldiers. The sad thing, he is also flag from receive awards, so he will have nothing to show for a tour not one medal, and that is a shame. My unit was very strict about that, if you got flagged then there was nothing but pain.

There is a belly hatch? Are you sure, I never headed of a belly hatch on a M1 Abrams. I know on some tanks they had belly hatches, but would not the torsion bars be in the way?.

On the M113 there is a belly plate, under the engine to access the oil/coolant drain plug.

I don't believe the Abrams has a belly hatch, because it would comprimise safety due to reduced armor.

The Abrams is protected against NBC, so a belly hatch wouldn't make much sense.

The torsion bars run across from the road wheel under width of the belly, these would be in the way any how.

I've also once posted a pic on MP net and a year or so later it surfaced here again hosted by some Turkish newspaper or something... this one seems to have made a detour through china?

Yes, it's real, all right. The AIM-9 was not secure on its launch rail and when the Hornet trapped (engaged the arrester wire) inertia caused the missile to detach from the rail and keep going. As you can see, the rocket motor did not fire.

Its a must. A few of my Pakistan Army pix started to appear on different Pakistani defense websites and finally one appeared on a newspaper. with the caption saying "troops during trg maneuvers - SOURCES". I was like W T F!!
