Certainly a different angle to see a firing Katusha from, it is of course a Hezbullah one, and the video is courtesy IAF :)

At the end you can see 2 or so fleeing the scene about a half a second before the bang, they got smoked alright.:fork:

I would imagine that I would be very p*ssed off if I were the IAF pilot. Each of those rockets is on its way to potentially kill your people in their own homes. Supreme motivation there.

Was it a bomb/missile shot from another place and lasser pointed by a choper?

Wow, they need to play that on the evening news so people understand what israel faces.

Maybe you should stop worrying about other people's grammar and worry about your own. After all, it is the incredible, edible internet :).

Take cover ! An other strike from the IDF :

When it comes down to spelling and grammar, I really don't care. But when somone makes a comment about another person's grammar and they mess up, it's quite funny to point out.

I bet the pilot was tensing a little with each of those rocket launches though... good to see the target got taken out nicely though...

I think you can see the bomb itself about 2 frames before the bang, comes in the from the upper left

Why in this video, iaf waits so long time to bomb this launcher ? The launcher had the time to launch a lot of rockets.

07-18-2006, 09:25 AM
At least that launcher was not anywhere near civilian houses.

I know these rockets are unguided, but are they using any type of computer to help them plot a firing solution? Or is simply a matter of setting the launcher at the proper angle and letting them go?

I doubt it as they are operating as individual vehicles. However, they will have had years to recce and survey sites, and they are aiming at towns so accuracy isn't paramount.

I would imagine that a field army using these BM21 systems would have a C&C vehicle that would have a fire control computer in it, but it is unlikely that hezbollah do.

Very impresive anti-terrorist response...It's just that why the IDF waited for it to let off a couple of rockets b4 terminating it...should have done it at the moment sighted!:fork:

It's just a guess but if the vehicle that generated this video wasnt the one doing the firing then the pause might be because the aircraft doing the firing was moving into position to do so.

Herrmannek
07-18-2006, 09:43 AM
Probably many of those free ballistic/rocket calculators on the internet would be enough to hit something with not much worse accuracy than accuracy of those rockets itself... This launchers can be aimed like any other artilery piece...Just rotate a right numbers on the dials and push fire... But I'm curious if the Hesbollah actualy cares about accuracy...

Con-man

Unfortunately, I rather doubt Hezbollah cares about accuracy. As long as it hits the town is all they would care.

from the time the bomb is dropped it takes about a half a minute for it to hit the target...
i haven't seen the vixeo yet but if it is the one that i think it is you can see the time that the pilot dropped the bomb when the crosshair vanishes for a second.
and you shouls get a firing clearance...the IDF does not fire at innocent people unless there is no other choice..
if you saw on the news in your countries F-16 drop leaflets warning civilians on oncoming attacks and warn them to stay away from Hizballah related ereas..

No, we can't, but in addition to IDF targets, hezbollah are intentionally targetting civillian population centres.

Its none of those things. Its a Chinese type 63 multi barrelled rocket launcher - looks like a fascist Nebelwerfer. Or possibly just the rockets lent against a rock and fired.

These are not Russian, not Russian designed or Russian built.

Can people stop calling them "Katyusha"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its pisses Russians off big time.

Why did they wait so long to bomb the thing?
It seems pretty clear from the start that it wasn't a hamburger stand. They should have blown it to smitherens after the first missile was fired

It takes time for the missile to reach it's target and the pilot might have required a clearance before being allowed to attack.

From Globalsecurity.org (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/russia/katyusha.htm):

References now to the Katyusha mean not just one type of rocket, but a whole range of different artillery rockets, whether from old Soviet or other-nation stock

Probably a wylie coyote from roadrunner style blue print, they have been busy with there protractors and set squares.

As for the wrongly calling it a katuysha, sorry if I caused the Russian any offence, but its a like they are a brandname for that sort of rocket launcher, bit like in England we call vacuum cleaners hoovers, even though hoover is only one manufacturers brandname.

True but the media has already labbeled the rockets as Katyusha's and therefore to the not so enlightend person the rockets are Katyusha's...damn media always getting their facts wrong
