Here are some pics of the largest MOUT village of Europe, called ''Marnehuizen'' It is a real village in the north of the Netherlands (Groningen). It has more than 120 houses and it also has a trainstation, city hall, stores, gas station, parked cars etc. This is a real a real city with electricity and a sewer system (where the enemy can make use of) because this is all real Marnehuize is the biggest realistic urban training centre of the world.

Can only be described with one word: Awesome. Those I have trained in have
usually only had one main street and houses on the sides. Kind a like these:

Well better than nothing, but the absolute realism is lacking.

The absolute best most of course be to practice in ordinary cities. But the
civilians probably doesn´t like that there vehicles are used to barricade streets
and so forth :)

Wow, most Brits would have a fit if there were exercises in British cities, but then I suppose Nordic states have a historically greater fear of invasion left over from the Cold War. Do you get to fire blanks in those exercises? (obviously live rounds are out).

Funny naming of some of those streets like "Sveavegen" (Does this Sveavegen come with a copy of the memory plaque on the sidewalk for Palme also?, couldn't see Brunkebergstrappan here though :))

Yup...

This topic reminds me of an old friend who did his service in a Stadsskyttekompani (infantry trained to fight especially in built-up areas). On one of their exercises there was there was this little old lady who popped out the window asking them if the WAR had started...

Remember once during a NATO excercise in Northern Norway when a company of mechanised infantry on one side and a similar sized "enemy" force had a fully fledged cowboys and indians game in a small village with guys blazing away blanks from MG's around the street corners, while the villagers themselves were sitting in their living rooms watching tv as if the boyos just wasn't there rofl.

Only restricitions I can remember vs. exercising in civilian areas, was that breeding farms for fur animals was strictly off limits, as those animals were rather stress sensitive (to the point were they could die or eat their own cubs from it, thus causing economic loss to the farmer).

I've trained at both the Singaporean FIBUA and Australian HRTA "Line Creek Junction" facility - both were bloody hard physically and mentally challenging.

This European one featured in this thread certainly appears more complex and larger than both of the specially built MOUT/FIBUA facilities I have used. Thanks for posting the pics

Are you here asking a question about this topic? :

http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14045

This is a video taken from a TV-show for kids. In this show kids are getting answers to their questions. This kid asked something about what Dutch soldiers are doing when they are on a foreign mission. To give her an example of what those soldiers can do an a foreign mission, they provided her this example of an assault on a village. Is was only for the tv-show, so no demonstrations are given.
Look at it as a long commercial for the Dutch Army ;)
