Is the whole XM8 project scrapped or just the XM8 compact?

Whole thing, I hope they go with the HK416 instead

Whole project, the only new rifle that will be introduced in the "SOCOM community" is the SCAR, starting in 2007. According to this site, it is sporting some nice accuracy and range tests, especially the SCAR-H.

Hk should quit working out new rifles for the United States, the g11 was an incredible idea (allthough it looked ugly) and then the project was killed. Same thing here. Doesnt look like the us military is willing to change to a complete new system

The G11 was developed for the Bundeswehr. It later became the ACR for the US DoD.

didn't HK make an improved version of the M4 carbine with "better internals"?

same mags, almost identical looks but less susceptible to jams and blockages

i read this in a (german) gun magazine some two years ago?!
something about the US military wanting new fire arms (because of all of the problems the current weapons have been bringing in Iraq)

the M9 (beretta m92fs) might be replaced by a new gun (also a beretta)... or berettas just trying to talk the US into buying the new gun

and the m4/16 being replaced by one of many competing manufacturers. apperently HK was on the top of the list  with two rifles at once: M4 ? and the XM8

please do tell me if i'm getting something mixed up here

It's called the HK416. Upgraded M4 carbine style weapons with gas piston operation. They were upgraded in a similar style to the L85A1 to A2 upgrade.

Do you mean the HK416, perhaps?

thanks... but i can't get much use out of the second sentence - don't know alot about the L85A1/ A2

@ Rudi: is that the real one or the Airsoft version?
i thought the one i saw resembled the standard m4a1 more (maybe it was just an older prototype)
I see you're german > VISIER p-)

Basically they added a gas piston, which the previous M4 did not have. Then they looked at the rest of the weapon - the L85 got new recoil springs and the bolt was modified - it's my understanding the HK416 was treated in the same way. It comes with the H&K steel magazine too, which enhances reliability through better ammo feeding.

BTW: does anyone know what the go is with the L85A2 i heard quite a while ago they were thinking of replacing it with G36 series rifles or is the L85A2 staying and if so for how long.

HK made an HK M4 with a piston system that looked nearly identical. Colt sued them, im not sure exactly how that turned out but HK decided to make the HK 416 and that is the evolution of the original system.

The gas-system is almost identical to the system used in the G36. That means the weapon can be fired a pleanty of times without cleaning.
I know a hk guy who claims they have a g36 which is fired about 20.000 times without cleaning. And it still works fine...

Colt sued HK because of the name HK M4. So they changed it to HK 416

Second part there was my point. Your first part says that it can be fired about 20.000 times without cleaning but I believe it was tested for 25,000 times.

I hope anyone using any rifle will be cleaning it more than once every 25,000 rounds. Wow, at that point how much more is the ammo you have fired worth over the value of your rifle lol.

Going in a different direction: Is this the same Chris Neidrich?

http://www.sptimes.com/News/040700/TampaBay/Man_arrested_for_wear.shtml

"County records show Neidrich has been charged five times: once for felony aggravated battery, twice for disorderly conduct and once each for obstruction of justice and unlawful assembly. He was convicted only of misdemeanor assault."

Same year of birth: 27 in 2000 according to the article and 31 in 2004 according to this article: http://www.wavy.com/Global/story.asp?S=1921256&nav=23iiNhEV

Anyone know the circumstances of the previous charges? Bar fight?
