I know some of you guys were interested in the Russian Internal Forces helmet SPHERA(СФЕРА)

There is not much information out there, so I decided to share some (i'm not an expert in it either  ) that I know

I brought one back from Russia, and did a photo shoot of it in my house last night. I gathered a simple OMON - SOBR officer's gear, and snaped some shots.

I wanted to capture the helmet in details for you all.

So lets start.

As far as I know the helmet is been in use during the late 80s.
Russians were testing the newest protection for their Internal soldiers. The old pot was getting old, un-comfy and rugged.

The development of the new helmet was on the run because of problems in the country with other republics. Based on the war in Afgan, the Ministery developed a new fully customizable helmet.

The SPHERA helmet issues with a "special" made bag (ill take photos of it if needed), but really nothing spectacular, just another canvas bag.

The contents include
Helmet body
Left side Steel plate
Right side Steel plate
Top cover steel plate
laces
VSR cover
SNOW cover

First is the Helmet body. Made out of nylon head cover.

This is where you put the plates, and lace them up.

First goes the side plates that will protect your ears and the side of your head. You just simply insert them into the slots, and lase the first layer.

So now the first layer of Steel is laced up, and time to put the top one on. You can custumize it however you need it by moving the plate lower or higher. After puting the last top layer plate, I laced it the same way as the side plates.

Now all you have to do is to cover the last part with front, and back straps. You can see the velcro tape on it. After that, its done and ready for your choice of cover.

The covers come in many cammo patterns. Almost anyone you need.
My favorite is VSR.

Ready to go.

It is a very comfortable helmet, and the best part about it is custumization. On the weight scale, it is not the heavies thing on the planet, but it is heavier than Kevlar. Don't forget it has STEEL plates for extra protection.
It actually saved a lot of guys lifes.

Enjoy the poster style shots hehehe

Cool!
I like it, looks like it provides pretty good coverage. What type of damage can it take?

I'm letting you know we want to see more Russian gear like that!

What bullets can the helmet withstand and can it handle multiple shoots in a quick succession (one right after the other from the same direction)?

and I would love to have Ibstolidude delete my whole thread next time - thankfully though he just happens to be in a great mood. But if I was a gambling man, I'd say he would delete it for certain next time. -

I know some of you guys were interested in the Russian Internal Forces helmet SPHERAYou know, there are at least two models of Sphera helmets. The SSSh-94 Sphera-S (SSSh means Special Steel Helmet, introduced in 1994) shown at your pictures (with armor steel plates), and previous model STSh-81 Sphera (plates are made of titanium alloy) (STSh means Special Titanium Helmet, introduced in 1981). As a supplement.
